Role Summary
This position requires a highly skilled Senior Microsoft Windows OS Engineer to support and optimize Windows operating systems within an enterprise environment. The role involves diagnosing complex technical issues, improving system performance, and implementing remediations to enhance end-user experience. The engineer will collaborate with various IT teams and contribute to troubleshooting efforts, ensuring stable and secure Windows platforms across multiple devices.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate endpoint analytics and Windows event/log data to identify workstation performance concerns and incident drivers.
- Investigate and diagnose root causes of Windows-related issues, including operating system errors, software installation problems, network connectivity issues, and third-party application conflicts.
- Develop and implement solutions to remediate identified Windows performance issues.
- Monitor system performance using advanced profiling and monitoring tools such as Microsoft Performance Toolkit, ProcMon, PerfMon, Fiddler, Sysinternals, WinDBG, and Wireshark.
- Collaborate with IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems related to hardware, software, network, and security.
- Manage Windows updates, service packs, and patches, ensuring proper installation and troubleshooting.
- Automate routine tasks and streamline diagnostics using PowerShell scripting and command-line interfaces.
- Maintain documentation of system infrastructure, configurations, and remediation activities.
- Support virtualization environments such as Hyper-V and VMware, including virtual machine setup and management.
- Stay current on emerging technologies and security practices related to Windows OS management.
Qualifications
- Minimum of thirteen (13) to twenty (20) years of relevant experience in Windows operating systems and enterprise IT environments.
- Extensive knowledge of Windows OS architecture, features, and functionalities.
- Proven ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot Windows 10/11 and server operating systems.
- Strong understanding of network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and security protocols.
- Proficiency with Active Directory, Group Policy, and domain management.
- Experience with PowerShell scripting, WMI, and automation of system diagnostics.
- Familiarity with performance monitoring and analysis tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex technical issues across hardware, software, and network domains.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or within a team.
- Desired: prior SME experience at Microsoft and knowledge of virtualization technologies.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
Publishing Pay Range: $54.00-$57.00 hourly
