ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) is a private, not-for-profit organization established in 1952 to provide a uniform date of appointment to positions in graduate medical education (GME) in the United States. The NRMP is not an application processing service; rather, it provides an impartial venue for matching applicants’ and programs’ preferences for each other consistently. The NRMP conducts the annual Main Residency Match, which encompasses 40,000 applicants for more than 25,000 positions in core residencies, as well as Matches for fellowship positions in 55 subspecialties through its Specialties Matching Service®.

POSITION SUMMARY

As the Manager, DevOps you will be responsible for defining, implementing, and evolving DevOps practices, platforms, and processes to enable reliable, scalable, and efficient software delivery across the organization. Operating without direct supervisory authority, the DevOps Manager leads through influence, coordination, and technical judgment. In this role, you will act as a technical and operational leader, ensuring strong alignment between development, QA, and operations teams, while driving automation, standardization, and continuous improvement. You will also ensure that CI/CD pipelines, environment management, release processes, and operational practices enable high-quality and predictable delivery outcomes. AWS is the primary cloud platform for this role. This position operates in a fast-paced, complex software environment where system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency are critical.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DELIVERY, RELEASE & OPERATIONAL OVERSIGHT

  • Govern release management and release readiness processes across applications and platforms
  • Coordinate cross‑functional release activities, managing dependencies among engineering teams, security, and vendors to ensure predictable and reliable deployments. Review and validate deployment plans, release checklists, rollback strategies, and release documentation, including release notes.
  • Oversee triage and coordination of production incidents and operational issues; facilitate root cause analysis and drive follow‑up remediation actions.
  • Establish and monitor delivery, stability, and reliability metrics; use data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement in delivery performance and risk reduction.
  • Ensure consistent operational practices across internal teams and third‑party partners
  • Use Jira workplans and delivery metrics to track execution against release commitments, identify risks or slippage early, and drive corrective action as needed.

TECHNICAL & PLATFORM OVERSIGHT

  • Provide technical oversight of DevOps platforms, pipelines, and tooling to ensure security, scalability, and reliability
  • Establish and maintain DevOps standards, guardrails, and architectural expectations
  • Review and evaluate proposed designs, tools, and vendor solutions for operational risk and alignment with enterprise strategy
  • Identify systemic technical debt or platform risks and recommend remediation approaches

LEADERSHIP, COMMUNICATION AND INFLUENCE

  • Lead through influence to drive adoption of DevOps, reliability, and release standards
  • Partner with engineering, security, product, and business stakeholders to align delivery with readiness
  • Communicate release status, operational risk, and trade‑offs to technical and non‑technical audiences, including stakeholders.
  • Coach teams and vendors on DevOps maturity, operational discipline, best practices and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to roadmap planning and prioritization by aligning DevOps capabilities with business objectives and enterprise strategy.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship and direction to DevOps delivery partner vendors and their staff consistent with strategic and operational directives.
  • Manage vendor relationships in accordance with MSAs and SOWs for compliance and engagement
  • Govern Jira workplans to ensure priorities, dependencies, and delivery timelines are clearly defined, aligned with enterprise objectives, and consistently communicated across teams.
  • Design and maintain executive dashboards that provide visibility into delivery progress, release readiness, operational risk, and key performance indicators.
  • Translate complex delivery and operational data into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership to support decision‑making and prioritization.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to ensure Jira plans and reporting reflect realistic sequencing, capacity, and risk trade‑

 

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL REQUIRED

The candidate must have legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship or restriction and must reside in the United States.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and project management methodologies and Agile approaches.
  • Extensive knowledge of release management, application management, collaboration, CI/CD tools and environments (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Git, Bitbucket).
  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to effectively deploy resources and manage multiple work-streams
  • Extensive knowledge in best practices for optimizing systems testing for functionality, performance and security.
  • Experience triaging production issues or outages, contributing to the investigation with hands-on SQL or other analysis techniques.
  • Experience with systems for monitoring and alerting, log analysis and threat management
  • Experience contributing to the design and maturation of cloud-based platforms, including establishing standards for deployment, monitoring, and operational support.
  • Demonstrated accountability for system reliability, platform performance, and delivery outcomes, including incident management and continuous improvement practices.

Communication:

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate architectural concepts to both technical and business audiences
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and collaborating with resources, contractors and consultants where you have no direct authority.

Experience:

  • 8+ years in the IT/business industry on multiple platforms and technologies, supporting various operating environments including cloud implementations and agile project teams; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years of cloud environment experience, preferably working with AWS
  • 3+ years of experience in release management, project management, or software development having participated in releases.
  • 2+ years of experience leading or managing technical teams.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Hands-on expertise with CI/CD tools
  • Experience managing software, applications, systems, operations and development initiatives.
  • Employment history that demonstrates experience managing cross-functional teams or projects and influencing key stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of DevOps Engineering Processes and Operations & Management
  • Knowledge of health care and/or medical education highly desirable

Education:

  • Bachelor''s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field. Relevant industry certifications (PMO, CISM, Certified Scrum Master, ITIL v3 or V4) is a plus.

Career Path:

  • A Manager, DevOps might advance to roles such as Sr. Director, DevOps or Director, Software Engineering depending on their career goals and organizational opportunities.
