Job Description
Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security, and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more - we can innovate, in-vest, inspire, and integrate our capabilities to transform the future.
At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We're creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security vision. We're erasing boundaries and forming partnerships across industries and around the world. We're advancing spacecraft and the work-force to fuel the next generation. And we're reimagining how space can connect us, ensuring security and prosperity.
Join us in shaping a new era in space and find a career that's built for you.
Lockheed Martin Space is seeking an Electro-Optical Systems Engineer to join our team in Louisville, CO!
We are looking for someone with a strong problem solving mindset: ability to develop creative solutions to difficult problems often requiring integration of conflicting and, at times, ambiguous or incomplete data on a fast-paced schedule. You should have the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex information, technical decisions, and issues to both highly technical and non-technical colleagues including customers, team members, and suppliers. We are also looking for the ability to build and maintain relationships, collaborate with others and manage interpersonal dynamics. You should be comfortable working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment while simultaneously working multiple, diverse tasks and projects.
Your responsibilities in this role will include the following:
Being a member of a multi-disciplinary, rapid-development engineering team designing, building, and fielding active and passive optical systems
Participating in active and passive electro-optical sensor systems architecture development to address challenging missions
Participating in system analysis and integration
Participating in engineering and analysis activities
Participating in laboratory testing and experimental demonstration
Contributing to summary reports, oral presentations, and/or technical proposals
Specifying and selecting components for use in electro-optical systems
Prototype development
Field demonstration
#LI-CS1
Basic Qualifications
Experience with electro-optics and/or lasers
Experience in design and engineering
Laboratory experience with hardware, such as for research, prototyping, and/or production.
Experience using sound experimental methods, such as planning, execution, analysis, and/or documentation
Experience with research and development of new technologies (i.e. TRL 2 to TRL 4) and/or with developing first-of-kind systems or products (i.e. TRL 4 to TRL 6)
Experience with technical writing
Must have the ability to obtain & maintain a TS/SCI w/Poly security clearance
Desired skills
Ability to work under consultative guidance with loosely defined problems and tasks
Multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge and experience
Ability and desire to be flexible and do a lot of different types of tasks rather than a narrowly defined role
Ability and desire to work on multiple, diverse projects simultaneously
Project management - experience with cost/schedule estimation and execution
Technical leadership experience
Some knowledge of business practices relevant to LM: NDAs, SOWs, BOEs, specs, contracts, finance, etc.
Systems engineering and analysis
Knowledge of passive and active remote sensing, including optical imaging systems, detectors and focal plane arrays, coherent and direct detection laser radar, radiometry, Fourier/wave optics, beam propagation, and/or atmospheric sciences, optical detection physics and methodologies, signal/image processing
Knowledge of pointing, acquisition, and tracking (PAT) for optical systems
Advanced degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or related fields is desired
Familiarity with optical design and analysis software tools. Examples include Zemax, FRED, SNLO, Code-V and LASCAD
Familiarity with software tools for modeling, analysis, and instrumentation control. Examples include Matlab/Simulink, LabView, and Mathcad
