Job Summary:
As a Senior Technical Lead Rules Engine, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, defining, and implementing advanced rules engine solutions for the Term Life Underwriting Platform. This position is critical to establishing robust, future-ready, and scalable underwriting systems that directly impact business efficiency, compliance, and innovation within the insurance vertical. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex underwriting guidelines into automated decision models, ensuring the successful delivery of high-impact technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
The Lead Engineer Rules Engine will be responsible for defining, architecting, and implementing the Rules Engine solution for the TERM Life Underwriting Platform as part of the Discovery, POC, and Build phases. This role requires deep expertise in rules platforms, rule authoring frameworks, governance models, and integration within enterprise insurance ecosystems
Lead the Rules Engine Architecture Definition for the Underwriting RE platform. Conduct in-depth evaluation of rule engine technologies (Drools, OpenL, Red Hat DM, Neutrinos RE, etc.) and recommend suitable platforms. Collaborate with Underwriting SMEs and BAs to convert underwriting guidelines into structured rule categories and decision models. Define the rules authoring lifecycle, versioning, governance, and publishing workflows. Partner with integration engineers and architect to define rule input/output schemas. Prepare deliverables for the Discovery Phase, including:
- Rule categories & functional requirements
- Rules authoring & governance model
- NFR requirement inputs
- POC/MVP definition
Skill Requirements:
- Hands-on expertise with Drools/KIE and DMN or similar rule frameworks.
- Familiarity with alternative rule engines such as OpenL Tablets, Neutrinos, Camunda DMN, or Blaze Advisor.
- Strong development experience in Java and Spring Boot.
- Proven ability to design rule authoring models, scorecards, and decision tables.
- Experience in defining and implementing CI/CD pipelines, version control, and containerization technologies (Docker/Kubernetes).
- Exceptional documentation and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range Minimum: $110000 per year
Pay Range Maximum: $133000 per year
