Job#: 3027813 Job Description: Machine Learning Engineer (Contract to Hire)
Location: Richmond, VA (Hybrid 2-3 days per week) (Open to candidates outside of the area who can travel in 1 time per month)
We're seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join a growing data science team focused on building and operationalizing AI-driven solutions in a complex enterprise environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working close to the business, owning models end-to-end, and ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and production-ready.
This position leans slightly more toward
applied data science and production ML than pure ML platform engineering and will play a key role in expanding enterprise-wide AI usage over the next several months.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain machine learning models used in pricing and analytics workflows
- Contribute to a multi-component pricing engine, blending traditional statistical modeling and ML
- Own the full ML lifecycle: requirements intake, data understanding, model development, deployment, and post-production support
- Deploy and scale models that will be used across the enterprise, not just by small or isolated teams
- Integrate ML/AI solutions into existing enterprise systems, services, and APIs
- Partner with data engineering, infrastructure, and downstream teams to deploy models into production environments
- Monitor and maintain models in production, including data drift, model drift, and concept drift
- Establish observability thresholds and support post-deployment hypercare
- Translate business and pricing requirements into technically sound ML solutions
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong Python experience for machine learning and data analysis
- Hands-on experience with Databricks and distributed data processing (PySpark)
- Experience supporting production ML deployments through the full SDLC
- Familiarity with cloud-based ML workflows (Google Cloud Platform preferred: Vertex AI, BigQuery; open to AWS or Azure)
- Solid understanding of supervised and unsupervised learning, especially regression and clustering
- Experience with ML observability and monitoring (MLflow, Evidently, WhyLabs, or similar)
- Experience with CI/CD practices and tools such as GitHub Actions
- Ability to work with structured and unstructured enterprise data
- Comfort operating in environments with security, privacy, and compliance standards (e.g., healthcare or regulated industries)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with pricing analytics, pricing optimization, or revenue management models
- Familiarity with ML libraries such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch, or TensorFlow
- Exposure to feature stores, model registries, and automated retraining workflows
- Experience designing ML solutions intended for high scale and enterprise adoption
- Prior work in environments where models move beyond experimentation into long-term production use
Additional Details
- Contract-to-hire opportunity
- Modern, cloud-based data and ML stack
- Strong preference for local candidates in the Richmond, VA area
