The Manager of Software Engineering manages professional individual contributors and / or supervisors who exercise latitude and independence. Often leads one or more departments / teams.

As a Manager of Software Engineering, yourteam is responsible for delivering trusted, timely, and scalable data that supports Sales, Inventory, shelf placement, and Partner scheduling. Ensures data platforms enable accurate decision making, operational efficiency, and an improved customer experience.

What is your background?
- Bachelor / Masters' degree in a relevant field of education and / or work experience leading successful projects and coaching / mentoring others in functional area. Completion of H-E-B Leadership programs where applicable (i.e. SORL)
- 5+ years of experience leading technical teams (3-6 team members)
- Experience managing projects, processes, or people
- Experience leading a team that provides operational support for the solutions they develop

Impact
Work is directly aligned to Store Operations priorities and measured by the team's ability to deliver reliable, high quality data solutions that support how stores operate. This role ensures data enables critical decisions that drive operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, partner productivity, and overall store performance.
  • Leads work that requires a strong understanding of store operations, business processes, and how data supports day to day execution in stores
  • Sets team objectives, delivery plans, and performance expectations aligned to initiatives that improve decision making
  • Ensures solutions are delivered reliably and on time, meeting operational and business expectations
  • Communicates progress, risks, and outcomes to ensure alignment between engineering work and business impact across Store Operations

Management and Leadership
  • Leads and develops a team of data engineers across all experience levels, fostering a high performing environment focused on ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Coaches and mentors engineers and technical leaders, including senior and staff level engineers
  • Manages hiring, performance, and career development for team members

Delivery and Execution
  • Partners with Product Managers to align business priorities with technical execution and roadmap planning
  • Establishes technical roadmaps, priorities, and work plans that drive delivery against business goals
  • Removes roadblocks and guides teams through complex delivery challenges

Technical and Cross Team Alignment
  • Partners with Digital teams to define engineering standards, platform design, and integration approaches that ensure consistent, scalable, and reliable data solutions

Operations and Continuous Improvement
  • Ensures production stability and drives improvements in processes, efficiency, cost, and data quality, including adoption of modern technologies such as AI
