Job Details
We are seeking an experienced litigator to join a sophisticated insurance practice handling complex coverage disputes and high-exposure matters on behalf of insurer clients.
We are particularly interested in attorneys with established insurance coverage experience, including policy analysis and coverage-related litigation. However, we will also consider strong litigators with insurance-industry experience who are interested in developing deeper coverage expertise.
This opportunity is well suited to an attorney who enjoys analyzing complicated contractual and factual issues, managing substantive litigation responsibilities, and working directly with clients. We offer experienced attorneys meaningful ownership of their matters while providing the support and mentorship necessary to continue developing their practices.
Responsibilities
Handle complex insurance coverage and related litigation matters
Analyze insurance policies, claims, and potential coverage issues
Advise insurer clients regarding coverage positions and litigation strategy
Conduct legal research involving contractual, coverage, and litigation issues
Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, memoranda, and substantive client communications
Manage written discovery and document-intensive matters
Take and defend depositions and assist with witness preparation
Develop case strategy and manage matters through various stages of litigation
Work with experts and other professionals on complex factual and technical issues
Participate in hearings, mediations, settlement discussions, and trial preparation
Maintain direct communication with clients regarding developments, exposure, and strategy
Qualifications
5+ years of meaningful litigation experience
Insurance coverage experience strongly preferred, but not required for an otherwise strong insurance litigator
Experience representing insurance carriers or working on insurer-side matters is highly desirable
Experience reviewing or analyzing insurance policies is particularly valuable
Strong deposition, discovery, and motion practice experience
Excellent legal research, analytical, and writing skills
Ability to independently manage substantial portions of complex litigation matters
Strong client communication and case-management abilities
Interest in developing or expanding an insurance coverage practice
Requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Active license and good standing in Massachusetts or ability to waive in
5+ years of litigation experience
Meaningful experience handling complex civil or insurance-related litigation
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to handle substantive litigation responsibilities with increasing independence
Ability to manage multiple active matters and competing deadlines
