My client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their team in Hartfort, CT. If you have a passion for automation, complex robotics, and cutting-edge laboratory technology, this hands-on role offers the opportunity to develop sophisticated software solutions that drive innovation in laboratory automation.
About the Role:
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and support software applications for robotic and automation systems used in laboratory environments. You will be instrumental in creating applications that power embedded, networked automation systems, from initial design and prototyping to full-scale production and ongoing support.
This role requires expertise in Java, the Spring Framework, RESTful Web Services, and database-backed applications. A deep understanding of automation technologies is essential, including experience with servo motors, I/O fieldbuses, machine vision, serial and TCP/IP device interfaces, networking, and process control for multi-step applications. You’ll collaborate closely with multifunctional product development teams to bring innovative solutions to life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and support software applications for laboratory automation equipment, including liquid-handling robots and instrument-tending systems.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to develop software for bring-up, testing, and diagnostics of automation systems.
- Build core tools in Java and other environments to streamline application programming for automation.
- Design, implement, and maintain application-specific user interfaces, web services, backend database systems, and performance metrics.
- Work with Customer Care teams to troubleshoot and resolve field service and production support issues.
- Develop software solutions in an ISO 13485 quality-regulated environment.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: 5-10+ years of application-level software development experience in laboratory and/or industrial automation.
- Strong background in embedded and/or real-time Java development.
- Proficiency in object-oriented design methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with industrial automation and robotics.
- Knowledge of pneumatic actuators, sensors, and servo-motors.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Java and other object-oriented languages.
- Experience with Eclipse and/or VS Code IDE, with SVN, Maven, and Nexus module management.
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub for version control.
- Experience with Java-based frameworks, especially Spring, Spring Boot, and Hibernate JPA.
- Ability to create drivers to interface with third-party equipment.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases is a plus.
Industry Knowledge:
- General understanding of life sciences and diagnostic laboratory procedures.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional product development teams.
Education:
- BS or Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience with OpenJDK 11+.
- Knowledge of Java messaging (ActiveMQ or equivalent).
- Proficiency in Web Services development.
- Hands-on experience with major databases (MySQL, Oracle, MariaDB, MongoDB, etc.).
- Familiarity with ETL processes and large data migration projects.
- Experience with machine vision technologies.
- Knowledge of CSS, HTML5, and Angular2.
- Background in production metrics and big data analysis.
