Job Overview
The Senior Software Configuration / Release Engineer will be responsible for designing, automating, and maintaining cloud configuration, release, and infrastructure management processes across GTA’s AWS environments. This role ensures highly available, secure, compliant, and well-governed cloud platforms through automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), patch management, backup strategies, and certificate governance.
The engineer will collaborate closely with DevOps, Security, and Infrastructure teams to support stable and reliable statewide services.
Key Responsibilities

Cloud Configuration & Infrastructure Automation>
Develop, implement, and maintain configuration management processes, policies, and standards for AWS environments.
Build, deploy, and enhance Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform to automate provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of AWS resources (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, ACM).
Manage and optimize multiple environments (Dev, Test, Stage, Prod) ensuring consistency, security, and compliance.

Release Engineering & AWS DevOps>
Support automation pipelines using the AWS Code Suite (CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline).
Partner with DevOps teams to support releases, deployments, rollbacks, configuration updates, and environment readiness.

Backup, Patching & Compliance>
Design and maintain automated AWS backup solutions aligned with state retention and compliance requirements.
Implement automated patching workflows to maintain required security posture.
Conduct periodic audits of configurations, patch levels, backups, and certificates; recommend and implement improvements.

Security & Certificate Management>
Manage installation, renewal, rotation, and validation of SSL/TLS certificates across AWS services.
Ensure secure communication configurations in alignment with state and federal security standards.

Documentation, Governance & Training>
Maintain comprehensive documentation for configuration baselines, IaC standards, Terraform modules, and environment changes.
Provide guidance and training on Terraform, AWS best practices, backup strategies, patch automation, and certificate management.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
8+ years of configuration management experience, including:
Strong proficiency with Terraform and IaC methodologies
Hands-on AWS experience (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, ACM)
Experience with cloud backup solutions and automated patching
Expertise in SSL/TLS certificate management and security best practices
Preferred Qualifications
Scripting experience (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
AWS and/or Terraform certifications.
Experience supporting state or local government environments.
Vendor oversight or management experience.
Familiarity with Agile or project management tools.
Experience with Organizational Change Management (OCM).
