This role will collaborate with other engineering team members and the AGN business unit to set the current state and future direction of the technological landscape for the AGN. You will be responsible for delivering conceptual designs and technical architecture suited to a variety of product, customer and market needs. The candidate must be highly motivated, able to work in a collaborative team environment, as well as independently.
The ARINC GLOBAL Network (AGN) System is comprised of several private data centers and connects to the far reaches of the globe, in almost every country providing aviation, airport, government, and transportation connectivity. AGN provides private networking in a highly reliable, secure and available world-wide network architecture for Collins Aerospace, CAS's Mission Critical Aviation, Transportation, and Airports Customers.
The Systems Engineer will be acknowledged as a thought leader within CAS business unit and broader Collins Aerospace business, credible and comfortable when engaging with executive leadership of both a technical and non-technical disposition.
What You Will Do:
You will work onsite in our Annapolis, MD facility 4 days a week.
You will Lead highly technical engineering teams on challenging System focused projects to develop solutions with cross discipline engineering teams.
You will serve as a technology lead on major projects and programs that contain moderate to highly complex environments, leading, and collaborating with, other members of the Collins Engineering team in the development of technical architecture proposals.
You will serve as the Subject Matter Expert for contemporary data network architectures and solutions, analyzing and recommending contemporary and emerging technologies for deployment across the global network system architecture that may be applicable in addressing emerging product and market needs, taking into consideration the wider business context, risks, opportunities and constraints.
You will develop and implement project plans within budgetary, schedule and resource constraints.
You will capture, analyze, decompose and create requirements for systems, products and subsystems of moderate to high complexity.
You will use an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on customer needs and business requirements, to design, develop, document, test and maintain systems ranging from the straightforward to highly complex.
You will devise technical product roadmaps depicting the steps anticipated to migrate from the current state to the targeted future state.
You will deliver cost efficiencies by migrating the product portfolio over time towards a common target architecture where it makes sense to do so.
You will ensure that design and development work undertaken by others within the Engineering team is aligned to the approved technical architecture for a given project/program.
You will author, review and maintain documentation during all phases of the system design life cycle as appropriate and specified within documented process and procedure (Project Plans, Estimates, Requirements Documentation, Operational Scenarios, Design Documentation and Drawings, Sys Acceptance Test Plans, etc...).
You will participate in and influence industry bodies and standards groups to align with Collins Aerospace's interests and proactively share the information and intelligence derived from these with both the engineering team and the wider organization.
You will articulate ideas in both business and technical terms (both verbal and written) according to the audience, securing and sustaining their buy in.
