ABOUT THE ENGAGEMENT
The client is seeking a Lead Martech Architect for a senior technical leadership role within a large-scale owned media platform transformation at a major enterprise retail client. You will serve as the technical authority on a lean, senior-weighted engineering team responsible for defining integration architecture, leading platform migration strategy, and building the engineering foundation for a modern, consolidated martech stack.
This is a high-visibility, high-impact engagement with direct influence on a multi-year technology transformation roadmap spanning multiple consumer brands. The right candidate will thrive in an environment that values architectural depth, delivery discipline, and cross-functional partnership.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Lead Martech Architect is the senior technical voice for the owned media platform engineering effort. This role combines hands-on architecture work with cross-functional technical leadership β setting standards, driving platform migration from legacy systems (including SFMC) to a consolidated owned media platform (Zeta OMP), and designing the integration and orchestration layer that underpins multi-channel marketing execution across all brands.
RESPONSIBILITIES
β Define and own the end-to-end integration architecture across the owned media platform stack β including ESP, CDP, tag management, personalization, and attribution systems
β Lead technical strategy and execution for the platform migration from SFMC and other legacy marketing platforms to Zeta OMP, with clear focus on delivery velocity and risk mitigation
β Design the martech orchestration layer β API gateway standards, data contracts, event bus architecture, and the integration patterns all downstream teams depend on
β Establish engineering standards, architectural patterns, and technical governance across the owned media engineering team
β Partner closely with product leads, marketing stakeholders, and vendor teams to translate business requirements into sound architectural decisions
β Evaluate vendor capabilities, integration complexity, and build-vs-buy trade-offs across the evolving martech landscape
β Provide technical mentorship to the broader engineering team and serve as the escalation point for architectural decisions and complex integration challenges
β Contribute to the AI/ML and agentic capability roadmap, identifying the platform foundations required for future intelligent marketing automation
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
β 8+ years of software or platform engineering experience, with 8+ years in a technical architecture or lead engineering role
β Deep expertise in martech platform engineering β SFMC, Zeta OMP, Braze, Attentive, or comparable enterprise ESP/owned media platforms
β Proven experience leading or architecting large-scale platform migrations in production environments
β Strong integration architecture skills β API design, event-driven systems, message queuing, data pipeline patterns
β Experience designing and governing CDP integration layers (Amperity, Segment, or similar)
β Cloud-native architecture experience β Azure preferred; containerization, IaC (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines
β Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills β comfortable presenting technical strategy to both engineering and business audiences.
NICE TO HAVE
β Exposure to AI/ML model integration or LLM API deployment in a martech or customer data context
β Familiarity with agentic workflow tooling (LangGraph, CrewAI, or similar)
β Experience with attribution and paid media measurement platforms
β Retail or e-commerce domain expertise
