Overview:
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to join our operations team in Tampa, FL. This role is responsible for supporting day-to-day data center operations, including hardware installations, rack and stack activities, structured cabling, equipment troubleshooting, and general infrastructure support. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of data center best practices, enjoys hands-on technical work, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform rack and stack installation of servers, network switches, storage devices, and related hardware.
- Install, route, label, and dress copper and fiber optic cabling according to industry standards.
- Patch and disconnect network and power connections as directed.
- Assist with hardware replacements, upgrades, and equipment decommissioning.
- Troubleshoot basic hardware, cabling, and connectivity issues.
- Perform equipment installations, moves, adds, and changes (MAC work).
- Document completed work, asset information, and cable changes accurately.
- Follow data center standards for cable management, labeling, and documentation.
- Respond to service tickets and complete work within established SLAs.
- Perform visual inspections of equipment and report any abnormalities or potential issues.
- Support inventory management by receiving, staging, and organizing hardware.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the data center environment.
- Follow all safety procedures and security protocols while working in the facility.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, network teams, and other technicians to complete projects.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience in a data center, central office, telecommunications, or similar technical environment.
- Experience with rack and stack installations.
- Knowledge of structured cabling, including copper (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A) and fiber optic patching.
- Basic understanding of server, storage, and network hardware.
- Ability to read installation diagrams, rack elevations, and work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in environments requiring standing, bending, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
- Comfortable working overnight shifts.
