Responsibilities:

Job Summary:

The hiring manager is looking for candidates with strong hands-on experience in Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) working across both Database Administration and Database Engineering functions. Ideal candidates should have around 5+ years of Google Cloud Platform platform experience and strong enterprise database expertise.

Role Overview:

• This is a hybrid role combining:
• 50% Database Administration
• 50% Database Engineering
• The selected candidate will design, build, operate, and improve secure, scalable, and highly available database platforms within Google Cloud Platform environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Database Administration:
• Manage enterprise databases hosted on Google Cloud Platform
• Perform backup/recovery, upgrades, patching, and capacity planning
• Implement HA/DR strategies
• Handle performance tuning, indexing, and query optimizatio
• Maintain security, encryption, and compliance controls
• Support incident response and RCA activities
• Maintain operational documentation and SLAs
• Database Engineering:
• Design cloud-native database architectures on Google Cloud Platform
• Work with:
• Cloud SQL
• AlloyDB
• Spanner
• BigQuery
• Firestore
• Build Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform
• Support schema design and data migrations
• Lead cloud modernization and migration initiatives
• Integrate databases into CI/CD pipelines
• Optimize cost, scalability, and resiliency

Required Skills:

• 5+ years of hands-on Google Cloud Platform production experience
• 7+ years of enterprise database experience
• Strong expertise with:
• PostgreSQL
• MySQL
• Oracle
• SQL Server
• Strong Linux/Unix administration knowledge
• SQL performance tuning expertise
• Scripting with Python/Bash or similar
• Experience supporting mission-critical 24x7 environments
• Experience in regulated enterprise environments

Preferred Skills:

• Financial services/payments industry experience
• Hands-on experience with:
• Cloud Spanner
• BigQuery
• AlloyDB
• Cloud SQL
• Terraform/IaC experience
• Kubernetes-integrated database workloads
• Knowledge of SOX/PCI compliance
• Google Cloud Platform Certifications preferred
