Summary

Job Title: Epic Architect (Clinical & Business Applications)

Location: Dallas, TX

Department: Information Systems – Epic Applications

Employment Type: 4‑Month Contract‑to‑Hire (C2H)

Position Overview

Texas Health Resources (THR) is seeking a highly experienced Epic Architect to serve as the organization’s primary technical and workflow strategist across both clinical and business Epic applications. This role replaces a long‑standing architect who has been with THR since the inception of the Epic roadmap over 20 years and brought a unique blend of clinical nursing experience and deep Epic technical expertise.

This is a critical, high‑visibility position responsible for ensuring the stability, scalability, and strategic direction of THR’s Epic ecosystem. The architect will work across all major Epic modules, guiding design decisions, integration patterns, workflow optimization, and long‑term platform strategy.

THR is open to the possibility of evolving this into two architect roles (one clinical, one business) depending on candidate strengths and organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities

Epic Architecture & Strategy

  • Serve as the primary architect for all Epic clinical and business applications across the enterprise.
  • Define and maintain the architectural blueprint for Epic, ensuring alignment with THR’s long‑term roadmap.
  • Provide guidance on system design, integration, interoperability, and workflow optimization.
  • Evaluate and recommend architectural approaches for major initiatives, upgrades, and new module implementations.

Cross‑Functional Leadership

  • Partner with clinical, operational, and revenue cycle leaders to translate business needs into scalable Epic solutions.
  • Collaborate with analysts, developers, and project managers to ensure consistent architectural standards.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on Epic capabilities, limitations, and strategic opportunities.

Clinical & Business Application Expertise

  • Oversee architecture across a broad Epic footprint, including:
    Clinical Modules:
    • ClinDoc
    • Orders
    • ASAP
    • OpTime
    • Anesthesia
      Business & Revenue Cycle Modules:
    • HIM
    • Prelude
    • Cadence
    • HB Billing
    • HB Claims
    • HB Contracts
    • Grand Central / ADT
    • (Gallery if applicable)
      Ancillary Modules:
    • Radiant
    • Willow
    • Beaker (not required to architect)
    • Cupid (not required to architect)

System Integration & Interoperability

  • Ensure Epic integrates effectively with ancillary systems, third‑party applications, and enterprise platforms.
  • Oversee interface design, data flows, and interoperability standards.

Governance & Standards

  • Establish architectural guardrails, best practices, and documentation standards.
  • Review and approve solution designs to ensure consistency and maintainability.
  • Participate in Epic governance committees and steering groups.

Mentorship & Knowledge Transfer

  • Provide guidance to Epic analysts and technical teams.
  • Support transition planning as the current architect retires.
  • Help build internal architectural capacity as THR evaluates expanding to two architect roles.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience working with Epic in a large hospital or health system.
  • Deep expertise across both clinical and business/revenue cycle Epic applications.
  • Proven experience designing enterprise‑level Epic architectures.
  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows, preferably with prior clinical background (RN or similar strongly preferred but not required).
  • Experience collaborating with operational, clinical, and technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead complex, cross‑functional initiatives with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as an Epic Architect or Senior Epic Technical Lead.
  • Experience in a large integrated delivery network (IDN) or multi‑hospital system.
  • Multiple Epic certifications across clinical and business modules.
  • Experience with THR’s Epic environment is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with ancillary systems (Radiant, Willow, Beaker, Cupid).

Epic Certifications (Preferred)

While not all certifications are required, candidates with broad certification coverage will be prioritized. Ideal certifications include:

Clinical: ClinDoc, Orders, ASAP, OpTime, Anesthesia

Business: Prelude, Cadence, HIM, HB Billing, HB Claims, HB Contracts

Ancillary: Radiant, Willow (Beaker/Cupid not required)
