Title: Principal Controls System Engineer
Compensation: $85-120/hour
Type: 12-Month Contract

Position Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Control Systems Engineer to lead the development of advanced electrical and control systems for large-scale themed entertainment environments and immersive attractions. This role is responsible for guiding projects from early conceptual development through detailed design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and operational launch.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced creative and technical environment, demonstrates strong engineering leadership, and brings innovative thinking to complex system challenges. This individual will play a key role in delivering highly reliable, safe, and cutting-edge control solutions that integrate seamlessly with mechanical, audio, and software systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and execution of electrical and electronic control systems in compliance with applicable engineering standards, codes, and regulations.

  • Oversee show control system development from early concept through final commissioning and operational handoff.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams throughout design, production, installation, testing, and documentation phases.

  • Facilitate and participate in design reviews and peer evaluations.

  • Develop engineering drawings, specifications, interface definitions, and test plans in accordance with company standards.

  • Manage complex project budgets and schedules; track performance against cost and timeline targets.

  • Define and finalize system interface requirements between control systems and ride, mechanical, and audio subsystems.

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of electrical and control systems.

  • Contribute to vendor development efforts and influence industry standards both domestically and internationally.

  • Support field integration, testing, adjustment, and system validation activities.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical or control systems engineering.

  • Demonstrated leadership within an engineering discipline.

  • Strong foundation in electrical and electronic engineering principles.

  • Working knowledge of computer systems, power distribution, and communication networks.

  • Experience with fault diagnosis in electrical and control systems.

  • Proficiency in schematic capture and control panel layout design.

  • Experience with system integration and field commissioning.

  • Familiarity with scheduling and cost estimating methodologies.

  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience with clean-sheet system design and prototype development.

  • Knowledge of motor control technologies, servo systems, and PID control loops.

  • Experience using AutoCAD or similar electrical design software.

  • Understanding of relevant regulatory and safety standards (e.g., UL, NEC, ASTM, ISO, IEC)..

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC) and industrial automation platforms.

  • Familiarity with integrated mechanical and software-driven systems.

  • Experience with large-scale entertainment or attraction control architectures.

  • Advanced degree and/or professional engineering licensure.
