Position Overview

BayInfotech is seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure & Systems Engineer to provide onsite part-time staff augmentation and training services to the Housing Authority of Kansas City (HAKC).
This role focuses on hands-on infrastructure management, legacy system modernization, security support, and real-time knowledge transfer to HAKC’s internal IT team.

This is not a managed services role. The selected engineer will work side-by-side with HAKC’s internal IT staff, providing technical support, troubleshooting, upgrades, and structured skills training.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Support

Manage, support, maintain, and optimize core IT infrastructure systems.
Assist with upgrades, configurations, performance tuning, and legacy system transitions.
Provide onsite troubleshooting for hardware, software, and network issues.
Document configurations, procedures, and recommended improvements.

Systems Administration

Provide hands-on expertise with the following platforms (as used by HAKC):

Cisco UCS – compute, servers, firmware, configuration, monitoring
Cisco Meraki – switches, firewalls, wireless, security policies
VMware / Omnissa Horizon – virtualization, VDI, ESXi, vCenter
Microsoft SQL Server – basic administration, backups, troubleshooting
Azure Hybrid Cloud – identity, AD sync, resource management
GoTo Phone System – configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting

Security Support

Assist with monitoring and improving network and system security posture.
Respond to security alerts and troubleshoot potential threats.
Implement and recommend security best practices.
Support compliance with HUD and public housing security expectations.

Training & Knowledge Transfer

Deliver structured, hands-on training to HAKC IT staff during each weekly onsite visit.
Provide mentoring on technologies, troubleshooting, and modernization practices.
Produce documentation, guides, or SOPs to build long-term internal capability.
Develop learning plans and conduct real-time training aligned to daily work activities.

Collaboration & Reporting

Work collaboratively with HAKC IT leadership and staff to define priorities.
Provide periodic status updates, progress reports, and recommendations.
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to agency policies.

Required Qualifications

5–10+ years of IT infrastructure engineering or systems administration experience.
Strong hands-on expertise in Cisco Meraki, Cisco UCS, VMware/Omnissa, and Microsoft SQL.
Experience managing Azure Hybrid Cloud environments.
Demonstrated ability to support enterprise-grade virtualization and networking systems.
Solid understanding of network security, incident response, and best practices.
Prior experience training, mentoring, or supporting junior/intermediate IT staff.
Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently onsite with minimal supervision.
Valid work authorization in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting public sector, housing authorities, local government, or regulated environments.
Background modernizing legacy systems and implementing updated infrastructure frameworks.
Familiarity with GoTo Phone System or similar cloud-based telephony platforms.
Certifications (preferred but not required):
- Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), VMware (VCP), Microsoft (AZ-104), Security+
Prior experience in hybrid cloud and VDI modernization projects.
