Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Substation Engineer to join our engineering team in Fairfield, CA. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in the design, analysis, and implementation of electrical substations and power distribution systems. This role involves working on medium- and high-voltage (MV/HV) infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting projects from concept through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop substation layouts, single-line diagrams, and protection and control schemes for HV/MV substations.
- Perform power system studies including load flow, short circuit, grounding, and arc flash analysis.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents using tools such as AutoCAD.
- Support project lifecycle activities including planning, design review, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC).
- Conduct site inspections and provide technical support during construction and installation phases.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Assist in troubleshooting, maintenance planning, and optimization of substation performance.
- Maintain documentation, reports, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in substation design, power systems, or related electrical engineering roles.
- Strong knowledge of HV/MV substation systems, transmission and distribution networks.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as ETAP, CYMGrd, or similar tools.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with industry standards (NEC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure (FE/EIT).
- Experience with project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6).
- Hands-on experience with testing and commissioning of substations.
- Knowledge of renewable energy integration (solar, wind) is a plus.
