Role Overview
We are seeking a Security Engineer to support the Department of Transportation's Cybersecurity mission. This role involves joining a dedicated team of cybersecurity professionals to maintain and enhance the security posture of information systems and infrastructure. These systems support the management of United States critical infrastructure, such as highways, bridges, and roads.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with Federal Leadership to implement endpoint protection profile changes and enforce security requirements.
- Coordinate with administrators and engineers to troubleshoot issues related to endpoint protection software.
- Support the integration of endpoint security data with security information and event management (SIEM) tools.
- Participate in declared cybersecurity incident handling activities as requested.
- Maintain current knowledge of the latest threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices for endpoint security.
- Manage and complete cyber-related security operations tickets using ITSM (ServiceNow).
- Participate in relevant Cybersecurity and Security Operations (SecOps) meetings.
- Collaborate on and provide feedback for cybersecurity solutions that enhance security posture.
Required Qualifications
- 6 years in Cybersecurity or a related Information Technology field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 4 years of experience.
- Experience working with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions.
- A solid understanding of Federal Cybersecurity requirements (e.g., FISMA, NIST 800 series).
- Effective communication skills with the ability to describe endpoint security concepts to various audiences.
- Ability to collaborate and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
Certifications: - One of the following or a similar technical certification is required: Network+, Security+, SSCP, GISF, or ISACA Cybersecurity Fundamentals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with application and technology stacks, cloud-based systems, operating systems, and databases.
- Knowledge of networking, firewalls, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and Endpoint Security Software.
- Understanding of Network Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS) and host-based IDS/IPS.
- Knowledge of general cybersecurity best practices and industry standards.

Compensation
The pay rate for this position is between $50.00 and $57.00 per hour.
