Position Overview

CivilSoft Technologies is seeking a Junior Software Engineer with strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on backend development experience. The ideal candidate will have experience developing software using Java, Python, and/or C++, building REST APIs, and working with CI/CD practices.

This position is well suited for a software engineer who enjoys working on technically challenging applications and is interested in environments involving space, mission, defense, or ground systems.

Candidates must possess an active Top Secret clearance and be able to work onsite five days per week in either El Segundo, California or Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain software applications.

• Develop backend components using Java, Python, and/or C++.

• Design, develop, integrate, and maintain REST APIs.

• Apply strong software engineering principles throughout the development lifecycle.

• Develop object-oriented software using established design and coding practices.

• Participate in code reviews and contribute to software quality improvements.

• Troubleshoot software defects and performance issues.

• Collaborate with software engineers, systems engineers, testers, and other technical teams.

• Develop and maintain automated build, test, and deployment processes.

• Work with CI/CD pipelines to support reliable software delivery.

• Follow Agile development methodologies and participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives as applicable.

• Apply DevSecOps practices to software development and delivery.

• Contribute to technical documentation and development standards.

• Support integration and testing of software components.

• Work effectively within a highly collaborative, onsite engineering environment.

• Contribute to applications supporting space, mission, or ground systems when applicable.

Required Qualifications

• Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance.

• Strong foundation in software engineering concepts and development practices.

• Professional or project-based experience with at least one of the following:

  • Java

  • Python

  • C++

• Hands-on experience with REST API development.

• Backend software development experience.

• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).

• Experience with CI/CD concepts, tools, or pipelines.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work onsite 5 days per week.

• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented software engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• TS/SCI clearance.

• Experience with two or more of Java, Python, and C++.

• Experience with DevSecOps practices.

• Experience working in an Agile software development environment.

• Experience developing distributed or service-oriented applications.

• Experience with software integration and testing.

• Experience with automated build and deployment pipelines.

• Aerospace or defense industry experience.

Clearance Requirement

An active Top Secret clearance is mandatory for this position.

Candidates with an active TS/SCI clearance are preferred.

Candidates without an active Top Secret clearance should not be submitted.

The position requires 5 days onsite.

Local candidates are preferred for both locations..

Contract Information

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a software engineer with an active Top Secret clearance who combines strong programming fundamentals with hands-on backend development experience.

The strongest candidates will have:

Active TS Clearance + Java/Python/C++ + REST API Development + CI/CD + Backend Development + OOP + 5-Day Onsite Availability

Experience in space, mission systems, ground systems, aerospace, or defense will be highly valuable.
