Summary

OpTech has a great employment opportunity with a national Tier 1 client for a Systems Software Engineer Automotive Architecture & Feature Design.

Location: Dearborn, MI

Duration: 12-Month Contract (Renewable)

Hours: Dayshift; 4 days onsite / 1 day remote

Compensation: Market competitive

Role Overview

  • As a Systems Software Engineer, you will serve as a technical architect for next-generation vehicle features. You will bridge the gap between software development and physical vehicle hardware, leading the design and implementation of complex features from early concept through to production launch.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Architecture: Develop high-level network, wiring, and power distribution topologies and schematics.
  • Feature Leadership: Lead the development of features at the systems level, including upgrade and migration plans.
  • Design & Documentation: Use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Python, C++, and Gherkin to design and document feature systems.
  • Safety & Security: Conduct functional safety assessments, cybersecurity mitigation, and Failure Mode Avoidance documentation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interact with product teams and core engineers to create balanced solutions for challenging technical requirements.
  • Technical Testing: Develop, test, and deploy technical solutions for endpoint hardware and software to ensure enterprise-wide compatibility.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years in Systems Engineering and 3+ years in Software Engineering (preferably in the automotive domain).

Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of vehicle electrical systems (networking, wiring, body/chassis systems).
  • Proficiency in Python and GitHub.
  • Experience with CAN communication and software problem resolution.
  • Requirements Management: In-depth experience writing functional specifications, feature verification plans, and implementation requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master s Degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in an automotive engineering role.
  • Knowledge of the Systems Engineering V-model.
  • Experience with Quality Documents (DFMEA, Boundary Diagrams, Special Characteristics).
  • History of leading multi-functional teams through technical trade-off negotiations.
