Lead Communications Technician to join a large-scale commercial project in Barker, NY. This role is ideal for an experienced cable technician who has supervised crews, worked in structured cabling environments, and is ready to take ownership of project execution and team leadership.
This position is
on-site and offers long-term potential, including advancement opportunities as the organization continues to scale.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and supervise project crews for voice and data installations.
- Ensure all work meets company and customer quality, safety, and compliance standards.
- Serve as the primary on-site contact for the customer and attend construction/facility meetings as needed.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager on productivity, job progress, and budget adherence.
- Complete all project documentation accurately (timesheets, material transfers, change orders, etc.).
- Perform quality checks, troubleshoot issues, and execute technical tasks with advanced proficiency.
- Prepare red-lined as-built drawings, coordinate cut sheets, and oversee cable moves/cross-connects.
- Promote a positive workplace culture and mentor team members.
Required Experience & Skills- 1+ year experience leading a crew or managing a team.
- 3+ years experience in telecommunications, structured cabling, or related technical/construction field.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and technical project documents.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel and MS Project.
- Experience terminating fiber.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and lift/move 50-75 lbs.
- Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
Tools RequiredScrewdrivers (Phillips & flathead), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tools (110/66), crimp tools, Krone/3M/BIX tools, butt set, volt-ohmmeter, continuity tester, 5-gang punch tool.
Work Environment- Fast-paced commercial construction site
- Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM (possible OT on Fridays)
- On-site only
Compensation- Pay Rate: $32.00 - $35.00/hr (Hourly)
