Summary

The Mechanical Designer supports the design and development of HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems for commercial, retail, industrial, multifamily, and institutional projects. Working under the guidance of licensed Professional Engineers and senior design staff, this position assists with the preparation of construction documents, engineering calculations, equipment selection, and project coordination efforts.

The Mechanical Designer applies technical knowledge, develops design skills, and contributes to project deliverables while gaining experience in building systems design, applicable codes, industry standards, and engineering best practices.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution; EIT certification preferred. - OR -
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Design, or a related field with relevant HVAC, plumbing, or building systems design experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of experience in mechanical engineering or building systems design.
  • Exposure to HVAC and plumbing system design.
  • Experience using Revit, AutoCAD, or similar design software.
  • Familiarity with commercial building construction documents.

Essential Responsibilities

Technical Design Support
  1. Assist with the design and layout of HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems.
  2. Prepare plans, details, schedules, schematics, and construction documents under the direction of licensed engineers and senior designers.
  3. Perform basic engineering calculations and equipment selections.
  4. Assist with system layouts and coordination of mechanical systems.
  5. Support the preparation and modification of project drawings and specifications.
  6. Research products, equipment, and manufacturer information to support project requirements.

Project Coordination
  1. Participate in project meetings and coordination efforts with internal team members.
  2. Coordinate design work with architectural, structural, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
  3. Assist in maintaining project schedules and meeting project deadlines.
  4. Communicate design questions and project needs to the project team.

Construction Administration Support
  1. Assist with responses to RFIs, submittals, and contractor questions.
  2. Support shop drawing and submittal reviews.
  3. Participate in site visits and field observations as assigned.
  4. Assist with resolving construction-related issues and documenting field conditions.
  5. Support permit review responses and project closeout activities.

Professional Development
  1. Develop knowledge of applicable building, mechanical, plumbing, and energy codes.
  2. Learn company standards, design procedures, and quality expectations.
  3. Seek opportunities for technical growth and professional development.
  4. Support department initiatives and special projects as assigned.
  5. Perform other duties as required.
