Data Integration & Middleware Architect who combines strong data analysis and data mapping expertise with the ability to design scalable middleware and integration architectures. This role sits at the intersection of business, data, and engineering. Ability to translate complex business requirements into clear data models, mapping specifications, and integration designs that support reliable, secure, and scalable system interoperability.
This is a hands-on role that requires both analytical depth and architectural judgment.
Data Analysis & Data Mapping
Analyze source system data structures and business rules across multiple platforms
Design logical and physical data models, including canonical data models where appropriate
Create and maintain source-to-target data mapping specifications
Define data transformation rules, validations, defaults, and lookup logic
Perform data profiling and quality analysis to identify gaps, anomalies, and inconsistencies
Ensure data lineage, traceability, and auditability across integrations
Middleware & Integration Architecture
Design middleware-based integration solutions (API-led, event-driven, batch, or hybrid)
Define integration patterns (synchronoasynchronous, pub-sub, request/response)
Design APIs, message schemas, and versioning strategies
Establish error handling, retry, logging, and monitoring standards
Ensure integrations meet performance, scalability, and security requirements
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure designs are implemented correctly
Architecture & Documentation
Produce clear architecture artifacts (data flow diagrams, integration diagrams, sequence flows)
Document integration standards, data contracts, and mapping logic
Participate in design reviews and provide architectural guidance
Evaluate tradeoffs between simplicity, scalability, and long-term maintainability
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with business stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve data definition conflicts
Translate business rules into technical specifications engineers can implement
Facilitate data mapping and integration design workshops
Act as a bridge between business, data, and engineering teams
Core Skills
Strong experience in data analysis, data modeling, and data mapping
Advanced SQL skills (joins, CTEs, window functions)
Proven experience designing middleware or integration architectures
Solid understanding of API design (REST/JSON; SOAP/XML a plus)
Experience working with at least one integration platform (e.g., MuleSoft, Boomi, Azure Integration Services, AWS, Kafka, or similar)
Strong understanding of data quality, validation, and governance concepts
Architecture & Integration Knowledge
Experience with integration patterns (hub-and-spoke, event-driven, batch, near-real-time)
Knowledge of schema evolution, versioning, and backward compatibility
Familiarity with security concepts (OAuth 2.0, API keys, encryption in transit)
Experience designing for failure, retries, and idempotency
Soft Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
Comfortable pushing back on unclear or conflicting requirements
