Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior DBA to oversee, optimize, and maintain critical MS SQL Server environments in a global, follow-the-sun operations team.

This role involves working on complex database architectures, providing technical leadership, and collaborating across regions to ensure uninterrupted service availability.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, configure, and manage advanced SQL Server setups, including AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Failover Clusters
  • Lead and execute major version upgrades, migrations, patching cycles, and database consolidations
  • Configure and enhance HA/DR solutions, including log shipping, replication, and backup strategies
  • Perform high-level performance tuning using execution plans, extended events, DMVs, and index optimization
  • Define and enforce stringent security practices, credential rotations, and encryption and audit standards
  • Support development teams with schema reviews and stored procedure optimization for improved performance
  • Execute and validate complex deployments while maintaining smooth release cycles
  • Perform capacity planning, scalability recommendations, and growth forecasting for database environments
  • Lead automation initiatives using PowerShell or Python for database efficiency
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational standards
  • Provide mentorship to L2 DBAs and serve as the senior escalation point for critical incidents

Requirements

  • 6-12 years of substantial MS SQL Server DBA experience
  • Deep understanding of SQL Server internals, storage engines, and indexing strategies
  • Expertise in AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Failover Clusters, and advanced replication methods
  • Proficiency in performance tuning tools like DMVs, execution plans, and query optimization techniques
  • Advanced capabilities in backup practices, recovery troubleshooting, and resolution of critical incidents
  • Strong T-SQL development skills and scripting proficiency, preferably with PowerShell
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server administration
  • Competency in managing additional databases like Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
  • Ability to lead complex production calls and cross-team collaborations during crises

Nice to have

  • Experience with cloud database platforms like Azure SQL, Managed Instance, AWS RDS, or Google Cloud Platform Cloud SQL
  • Knowledge of automation frameworks and tools such as Redgate and replication enhancements
  • Familiarity with CI/CD workflows for database change management
  • Understanding of security practices like encryption standards, data masking, and auditing frameworks
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications like MCSE or DP-300
