Your Role:ArcelorMittal Global Research & Development Center is seeking a highly skilled, a results-driven and motivated process control engineer to join our global R&D team in developing and implementing process control systems for steel manufacturing processes, particularly in casting, flat rolling and finishing process including continuous casting, hot strip mills, cold strip mills, batch annealing, temper mills and continuous hot dip coating lines. You will be evaluating our existing manufacturing processes, analyzing process data, developing process control strategies and solutions, and implementing same in our manufacturing facilities. Using Digital tools and AI based models for Process Control will be a key responsibility. The prospective candidate will work independently and collectively with project teams to develop Process Control solutions by using advanced tools and technologies.
The job will be based at Calvert but will support ArcelorMittal North American plants. Projects will have a global perspective where interaction with other ArcelorMittal R&D laboratories or plant personnel is expected. Prospective candidate is expected to coordinate planning, budgeting, scheduling, and identifying resources required for project execution. A high level of technical competency, teamwork, project management skills and excellent interpersonal skills is required for being successful for this position. Travel, both domestic and international, is a requirement of the position.
Main Tasks: Identify, understand and evaluate process control issues at ArcelorMittal manufacturing facilities that have both a current and future impact on product quality, manufacturing costs, and productivity
Work closely in a team environment with Operations, Research, Quality, Plant Technology and Process Automation Engineers to analyze problems and design and implement control solutions in a timely manner
Work with control system vendors to implement solutions for ArcelorMittal's manufacturing needs
Clearly communicate issues, ideas and technical solutions to members of the team and to ArcelorMittal management
Manage the technical resources required for each project
Keep up-to-date on technological developments, control systems, and associated methodologies for steel and other industries that can be of benefit to ArcelorMittal
Travel to ArcelorMittal manufacturing facilities in North America is expected as well as the occasional travel to ArcelorMittal's global facilities
Perform other duties as may be required by the position.
What we're looking for:Minimum/Basic Requirements:- Experience:
- Must possess a strong background in science of measurement and control, particularly as related to the steel manufacturing process
- Having background and applications of Digital tools and Machine learning models is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Good understanding of control theory (Classical and Modern)
- Proficient in computer modeling (Matlab) and control simulations (Simulink)
- Good computer skills in data analysis and statistical analysis
- Good presentation skills
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- An inherent passion for continuous learning, innovation and discovery is needed to be successful.
- Education: MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering
Preferred Requirements:- Experience:
- At least 2 Years of experience in metals manufacturing
- Experience in the following:
- shape measurement and control for flat rolling processes (cold and hot)
- thickness and tension measurement and control for flat rolling processes
- width and profile control for hot rolling processes
- coating weight measurement and control for hot dip galvanizing processes
- temperature measurement and control of batch anneal and continuous annealing processes,
- instrumentation and control of slab casting processes
- Experience with Visual Studio and Comsol
- Education: Ph.D. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering
