External Relations at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join the Operations team as a Data Engineer. Position Summary

This dynamic role requires the ability to work to stabilize, optimize, and enhance our recently launched CRM built on Salesforce. This position is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and integration of advancement systems that support the university and the health system. The Data Engineer is an expert problem solver who enjoys the challenge of learning new technologies and applying their learning to continually improve our systems and processes. This position ensures data flows between systems and develops data models in our data warehouse that support our reporting and analytics team.

Responsibilities
  • Data Systems: designs, builds, tests, and tunes database objects including dimensional warehouse objects. Assesses and improves data integrity and data quality; troubleshoots complex data and query issues.
  • Integrations: Participates in the analysis, design, implementation, testing, automation, and maintenance of scheduled integrations and ad-hoc data loading from various sources.
  • Documentation: Documents processes and procedures and includes technical diagrams where relevant to ensure the longevity of knowledge.
  • Partners: Works closely with the Business Intelligence Team and our partners across grounds to ensure data is available and modeled as needed to support reporting and analytics.
  • System Support: Provide support for advancement applications, such as Snowflake, Salesforce, Kindsight ascend, Blackthorn, and other associated applications.
  • System Monitoring: monitors and plans for: system upgrades, resources and storage requirements, health and security
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position will be part of the on-call team which monitors various systems and scheduled processes. Experience with modern integration tools like Boomi, AppFlow, Mulesoft, Informatica, Jitterbit, or SSIS as well as with APIs is highly desired.

Strong candidates for this role will have a good technical foundation in building and optimizing data systems, experience in an agile environment, a love of learning, and an ability to develop relationships across reporting lines. Excellent candidates will be able to manage multiple competing priorities and adapt their communication style for collaboration with technical colleagues, partners and subject matter experts, leadership, and vendors to assess, develop and troubleshoot their data and technology needs.

The successful candidate will complete complex assignments independently and collaboratively to help maintain continuity of operations as we stabilize, optimize, and enhance our newly launched Advancement CRM.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent combination of accreditation, education and experience required.
  • Experience: 5+ years relevant professional experience required.
  • Licensure: None.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven track record with integrations, Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) design, development, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Experience using CRM systems such as Salesforce, Ellucian Advance, Blackbaud, and Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Experience designing and implementing Data Warehouse architectures.
  • Experience in an Advancement role.
  • Experience with the design and development of REST APIs.
  • Demonstrable experience preparing technical diagrams, logical data models, source-to-target maps, user-friendly documentation, and responsibilities for stakeholder and vendor communications.
  • Demonstrable experience in business requirements gathering, process improvement, project management, and effective communications.
  • Expertise using Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, .Net/C# etc.
  • Salesforce Certifications

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Salary Range
  • The anticipated hiring range is $95,000 - $110,000, commensurate with education and experience.

  • This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability.
  • UVA External Relations offers a flexible and hybrid workplace. All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools. Depending on the type of position and work performed, or as deemed by the manager, some positions may be required to work intermittently in an office space located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
  • This position is eligible to work remotely, with periodic visits to UVA Grounds required.
