Job Title: Android Performance Engineer
Location: Sunnyvale / Cupertino, CA (Onsite 5 Days/Week)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Android Performance Engineer with strong expertise in Android system performance optimization, profiling, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience diagnosing and resolving complex performance bottlenecks related to memory, CPU/GPU utilization, thermal behavior, battery efficiency, and UI rendering.
This role requires deep knowledge of Android internals, profiling tools, and performance testing frameworks in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze, diagnose, and optimize Android application and system performance
Investigate issues related to memory, CPU/GPU, power, thermal, and battery performance
Use advanced Android profiling tools to identify bottlenecks and performance regressions
Optimize Android UI rendering, animations, RecyclerView performance, and overdraw
Conduct benchmarking and performance validation using Android testing frameworks
Collaborate with development teams to implement performance improvements
Develop performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting methodologies
Communicate complex performance findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Support performance tuning across different Android devices and configurations
Required Skills & Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in Android Performance Engineering
Strong expertise in Java and/or Kotlin for Android development
Deep understanding of Android OS architecture and performance optimization
Expert proficiency with Android profiling and debugging tools including:
Android Profiler
Perfetto
Systrace
Dumpsys
ADB
Battery Historian
Strong understanding of:
CPU/GPU architecture
Memory management
Power and thermal management
Experience with Android UI optimization techniques:
View hierarchies
RecyclerView
Animations
Overdraw reduction
Experience with performance testing frameworks such as:
Android Macrobenchmark
Microbenchmark
Espresso
Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex performance issues
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working on large-scale Android platforms or OEM environments
Familiarity with low-level Android framework internals
Experience with system-level debugging and performance analysis
