Position Title: Enterprise Architect
Location: Fairfax, VA
Duration: 12 months

Overview

Fairfax County DIT is seeking an Enterprise Architect to support the Chief Enterprise Architect in leading large-scale infrastructure transformations and cloud modernization initiatives. The consultant will serve as a bridge between DIT, county agencies, and technical teams, facilitating workshops, gathering requirements, and translating complex business and technical needs into architecture strategies and delivery plans.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Serve as the primary architectural liaison for major technology initiatives and enterprise assessments.
• Conduct technical discovery activities and document current-state enterprise architecture.
• Baseline and assess enterprise IT environments across on-premises data centers and hybrid cloud platforms.
• Partner with DIT teams and stakeholders to evaluate technology landscapes and future-state architecture.

Architecture Assessments & Documentation

• Perform technical reviews of enterprise systems.
• Create and maintain:
  • System topology diagrams
  • Data flow diagrams
  • Network dependency matrices
  • Service catalogs
• Document comprehensive current-state enterprise architecture artifacts.

Infrastructure & Cloud Analysis

• Evaluate existing enterprise storage platforms, capabilities, and gaps.
• Assess current observability tools and monitoring architecture.
• Conduct archive and retention proof-of-concept (POC) initiatives to reduce risk and optimize costs.
• Support cloud modernization and infrastructure transformation efforts.
