Job Title: Microsoft Fabric Solution Architect
Location: Remote
Duration: 3 months (with potential extension)
Job Summary:
The Microsoft Fabric Solution Architect will serve as the technical leader and architect for enterprise data platform modernization. This role involves designing, implementing, and governing a modern Microsoft Fabric ecosystem to replace legacy Azure SQL and ETL architectures. The architect will define end-to-end architecture, establish governance standards, guide migration strategies, and mentor Data Fabric Engineers while ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, cost-efficient, and analytics-ready.
Key Responsibilities:
Architecture & Design Leadership
- Define and implement end-to-end Microsoft Fabric architecture, covering ingestion, storage, transformation,
- analytics, and reporting.
- Design Lakehouse-based target architectures using OneLake and Medallion patterns (Bronze/Silver/Gold).
- Establish enterprise-wide standards for workspace design, naming conventions, artifact organization, and best
- Define data modeling strategies for Lakehouse vs. Fabric Data Warehouse for optimized analytics and governance.
- Ensure architecture supports high scalability, availability, performance, and AI/ML integration.
Migration Strategy & Execution
- Assess current Azure SQL databases and ETL pipelines to define a phased migration roadmap.
- Decide on modernization approaches: lift-and-shift, re-platforming, or re-architecting.
- Define patterns for incremental loads, CDC (Change Data Capture), historical backfills, and orchestration.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Data Fabric Engineers during migration execution.
Governance, Security & Compliance
- Define enterprise-grade security and governance architecture for Fabric.
- Align RBAC, workspace permissions, data access policies, and sensitivity labels.
- Integrate Microsoft Purview for cataloging, lineage tracking, and compliance reporting.
- Ensure adherence to organizational and regulatory standards (HIPAA, GDPR, SOX, etc.).
Performance, Scalability & Cost Optimization
- Define capacity planning, scaling strategies (F-SKU), and high availability architecture for Spark, pipelines, and Fabric.
- Establish performance optimization strategies for pipelines, warehouses, and queries.
- Implement FinOps and cost management best practices to maintain cost efficiency.
DevOps & Operational Readiness
- Define CI/CD strategy for deploying Fabric artifacts using Git and Azure DevOps.
- Oversee environment separation (Dev/Test/Prod) and deployment workflows.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and operational support models.
- Prepare architecture runbooks, operational guides, and documentation for ongoing governance.
Stakeholder & Team Leadership
- Serve as technical authority for Microsoft Fabric-related decisions.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, BI teams, security, and platform administrators to translate business
- requirements into technical architecture.
- Mentor and guide Data Fabric Engineers, enabling adherence to architecture best practices.
- Lead architecture reviews, design approvals, and client workshops.
Key Outcomes / Success Metrics
- Approved, scalable, and well-documented Microsoft Fabric target architecture.
- Smooth migration from Azure SQL + ETL to Fabric Lakehouse and Warehouse ecosystems.
- Secure, high-performance, cost-efficient, and governance-compliant enterprise data platform.
- Fully-enabled Data Fabric Engineering team following standardized architecture,
- governance, and operational practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical:
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric architecture: OneLake, Lakehouse, Fabric Data Factory, Fabric Data
- Warehouse, Spark, Power BI semantic models.
- Deep expertise in Azure SQL, SQL Server, ETL modernization, and enterprise data architecture.
- Strong knowledge of Lakehouse, ELT, Medallion patterns, and dimensional modeling.
- Experience with data migration strategies, performance optimization, and cost planning.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD, and operational readiness in Fabric or Azure environments.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have:
- Microsoft Fabric / Azure Solutions Architect certifications.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview and data governance frameworks.
- Exposure to real-time or streaming architectures.
- Experience in regulated industries (banking, healthcare, insurance).
