Description
Primary Responsibilities:
The System Administrator is primarily responsible for management of all storage and backup systems deployed at SEC locations.
This includes Dell/EMC Unity storage devices and Rubrik backup systems.
After hours availability is required in order to respond to emergencies, and to perform system maintenance that cannot be completed during normal business hours.
Additional responsibilities include:
Manage on prem storage and backup systems.
Currently Dell/EMC Unity storage arrays and a combination of Dell IDPA and Rubrik backup systems.
Report daily on overnight backup operations.
Conduct test restores of all data types on a monthly basis.
Optimize our SAN storage solution for our VMware environment.
Monitor the health and analyze performance of the storage environment.
Maintain patch levels and keep firmware updated to ensure optimum performance.
Make recommendations and implement changes to improve the overall performance of storage, backup and virtualization environments.
Monitor both backup and storage replication jobs to ensure successful completion.
Review replication strategies as a whole and make recommendations to support and improve our established and growing DR processes.
Create and document procedures regarding storage and backup standards within the organization.
Manage projects related to Storage and Backup and deliver on time and on budget.
Work closely with our DBA team to ensure effective backups of our most critical databases.
Work independently and leads assignments of medium to high complexity.
Consistently apply the concepts of appropriate standard methodologies and best practices.
Prepare reports, record progress and create solutions to IT problems/issues. Interface with suppliers and vendors as needed to evaluate software, hardware or services and makes recommendations.
Under minimal direction, perform basic analysis, design, implementation and maintenance activities in various areas of IT.
Participate in rotation for afterhours support.
The System Administrator must be able to manage services from the planning phase through the implementation and management phases. He or she will interface with other team members, management, and end-users on a regular basis Secondary Responsibilities: The System Administrator is also responsible for management of all virtualization environments.
This includes the SEC’s 3 main VMware environments.
Additional responsibilities include:
Monitor the health and analyze performance of the VMware environment.
Keep ESXi and vCenter patched and updated to latest supported levels.
Make recommendations and implement changes to improve the overall performance of the various VMware host clusters.
Hardware build-out to expand and refresh available physical resources.
Create a strategy that right sizes guest machines to ensure our production environment is free from contention. Architect an environment that optimizes ESXi host performance, reliability and availability.
Test, upgrade, and migrate old host servers/clusters to new and align the resources with the requirements of the business. Work with our Cyber Security Team to harden our VMware environments guided by CISA recommendations. Create and document procedures regarding virtualization standards within the organization. Setup layers of protection against ransomware and other modern day threats to data.
Tertiary Responsibilities:
The System Administrator also supports the management of all Active Directory environments.
This includes multiple Active Directory Forests and Domains.
Additional responsibilities include:
Monitor the health and analyze performance of the Active Directory environment.
Make recommendations and implement changes to improve the overall effectiveness of Active Directory.
Support team efforts in day-to-day operations in areas including account/group management as well as DHCP/DNS operations. Contribute to the team building out GPOs to manage our workstations and servers in a secure and consistent fashion.
Qualifications:
BS or equivalent plus ten years related experience, or MS plus seven years related experience Demonstrated hands on experience performing administration, troubleshooting, patching, and support of VMware virtual infrastructures, storage and backup environments and Windows AD Experience and in-depth understanding of Active Directory, DNS and other Windows core services
Experience managing private cloud environments as well as developing highly available virtualized environments including defining monitoring standards, operational procedures and growth plans required
Experience with EMC Unity and NetApp storage arrays
Knowledge and experience with HPE ProLiant servers
Proven experience designing and implementing an enterprise-wide virtual infrastructure using ESXi v8/v9
Demonstrated experience working with vendors and end users on system troubleshooting
Ability to automate processes through the effective application of scripts (PowerShell, Pearl, VBS)
Ability to handle multiple tasks while prioritizing and delivering results on time Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Certifications:
Storage/Backup/Microsoft/VMware certifications preferred ITIL certification preferred
