Summary:

The Senior Principal Enterprise Architect - Data Architecture & Strategy is a senior individual contributor within the Enterprise Architecture team responsible for defining the organization's enterprise data architecture vision, future-state data ecosystem, and strategic technology direction. This role establishes the architectural principles, standards, roadmaps, and governance frameworks that enable trusted, secure, interoperable, and scalable data capabilities across clinical, research, operational, financial, and AI domains.

Serving as the enterprise architecture leader for data, the role translates business, technology, and Data & Analytics strategies into actionable architecture guidance, reference architectures, and technology investment recommendations. The position provides architectural leadership for modern data platforms, Data Product architecture, data governance, metadata management, semantic frameworks, and AI-ready data foundations, ensuring data assets are reusable, governed, and aligned to enterprise objectives.

Working closely with Data & Analytics leadership, Data Product teams, security, privacy, and business stakeholders, the architect drives enterprise-wide alignment of data architecture decisions, technology standards, and governance practices. This role provides strategic oversight and thought leadership to help the organization maximize the value of its data investments while enabling analytics, AI, research, and digital transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain the enterprise data architecture strategy, future-state architecture vision, and multi-year technology roadmap in partnership with Data & Analytics leadership and business stakeholders.
  • Translate business, clinical, research, operational, analytics, and AI strategies into actionable data architecture direction, target-state architectures, and technology investment recommendations.
  • Establish and govern enterprise data architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, and design patterns for data integration, storage, modeling, sharing, and consumption.
  • Lead the development of enterprise architecture guidance and strategic direction for modern data platforms, including lakehouse architectures, cloud data platforms, Databricks, metadata management, data quality, lineage, and data catalog capabilities.
  • Define enterprise Data Product architecture standards, operating principles, and reusable architectural patterns that enable scalable, interoperable, governed, and discoverable Data Products.
  • Partner with Data & Analytics, Data Product, AI, and engineering leaders to align architecture, platform, and product roadmaps while promoting enterprise-wide consistency, interoperability, and reuse.
  • Participate in Architecture Review Boards and governance forums, providing architectural oversight and guidance for major data initiatives, technology investments, and strategic programs.
  • Lead technology assessments and platform evaluations for data, analytics, governance, integration, and AI technologies, providing evidence-based recommendations for adoption, standardization, and investment decisions.
  • Establish architectural foundations for AI-ready data, including data quality, semantic models, metadata frameworks, ontology and knowledge architectures, feature engineering, and model-ready data capabilities.
  • Partner with enterprise data governance stakeholders to advance data classification, master data management, lineage, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance frameworks for enterprise data assets.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership by developing architecture roadmaps, strategic recommendations, technology assessments, and executive-level briefing materials that support enterprise decision-making.
  • Mentor architects and advance enterprise data architecture maturity through coaching, architecture practice leadership, standards development, and continuous evaluation of emerging data, AI, cloud, and regulatory trends.

Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (Required)
  • And 15+ years Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field, with demonstrated depth in enterprise data architecture, cloud data platforms, and data governance in complex, multi-domain organizational environments (Required)
  • And 7+ years Data Architecture experience at enterprise scale, with demonstrated delivery of data platform strategies, lakehouse architectures, data governance frameworks, and data product architecture contributions; prior experience in healthcare, academic medical center, or regulated industry environments (Required)
  • 3+ years Healthcare Life Science, Provider, Academic or Payer Experience (Preferred)
