- Work with engineers to develop design alternatives to be proposed in general and detailed design memoranda by researching available information on the mechanical, electrical, and structural equipment and planning and developing the equipment layout.
- Use computer aided drafting techniques to take very basic sketches prepared by the engineer and develop them into complicated 3D solids models, preliminary and final plans of design features and equipment proposed in design memoranda.
- Work with engineers to develop preliminary and final contract plans and specifications for engineering unique design features.
- Prepare preliminary layouts for development into final contract plans by others.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Applying knowledge of Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) tools sufficient to design features for mechanical, electrical, and/or structural equipment; 2) Identifying and recommending solutions to resolve contract related issues; 3) Using engineering technical programs such as a Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and 3D Modeling, to update, illustrate, or create new drawings and manage project workload. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
