Position: Senior .NET Backend Developer - Microservices

Location: Richmond, VA 23223 Client: State of Virginia Duration: 12+ Months

Job Description: We are modernizing an enterprise tolling platform using microservices and modular architecture. You'll contribute to backend services and APIs with .NET Core and C#, collaborate with solution architects and cloud engineers, and help optimize performance. Work in an Agile/Scrum team and support Azure-based integrations, CI/CD pipelines, and data access patterns with SQL Server on Azure VMs. Prioritize clean design, robust testing, and scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain .NET Core backend services and REST APIs
• Collaborate with SQL developers to implement efficient data access
• Modernize platform using microservices and modular architecture
• Implement new features and enhance existing functionality
• Optimize performance across application layers
• Integrate with Azure-based components and cloud services
• Support CI/CD using Azure DevOps or GitHub pipelines
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and deliver sprint commitments

Required Skills:

• 7+ years .NET Core and C#
• 7+ years building REST APIs and microservices
• 7+ years consuming/integrating with SQL Server on Azure VM environments
• Strong OOP, design patterns, and best practices
• 7+ years CI/CD with Azure DevOps or GitHub
• 7+ years Agile/Scrum experience
• 3+ years integrating backend with ETL (SSIS or Databricks)

Desired Skills:

• Terraform or other IaC tools
• Domain-driven design and microservices
• Distributed systems or high-availability environments
• Tolling/transportation domain knowledge (preferred)
• 5+ years ETL integration experience (SSIS/Databricks)
