MUST-HAVE SKILLS:
- Interconnect Product Engineering: 5+ years of dedicated product engineering experience in interconnect product development, analysis, and testing (electrical connectors, backshells, cable harnesses, and conduit assemblies).
- Failure Analysis & Problem Solving: Proven track record leading complex failure investigations using formal methodologies (e.g., 8D, RedX) and presenting outcomes to executive and technical leadership.
- Qualification & Test Documentation: Expertise in directing, structuring, and authoring compliance matrices alongside validation and verification test plans, procedures, and reports.
- CAD & Materials Science: Proficiency in generating 3D CAD models/drawings per ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards, combined with strong knowledge of materials science (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites) and conductive/corrosion-inhibiting platings.
- PLM & Change Management: Hands-on experience with Engineering Change Orders/Notifications (CN/CO) and Product Data/Lifecycle Management (PDM/PLM) systems.
COMPANY & ROLE OVERVIEW:
As a Design Engineering Product Specialist, you will serve as a high-level technical expert within the Technologies Division. In this advisory role, you will interface directly with upper management, commercial and defense customers, suppliers, and industry standards groups.
Your core focus will center on military and commercial Electrical Wiring Interconnect Systems (EWIS), including high-reliability connectors, backshells, conduit assemblies, and custom cable harnesses across R&D, new product development, and facility transfers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Technical Advisory & Strategy: Serve as the subject matter expert on internal research and development, new product introduction (NPI), sustaining engineering, and new business proposal evaluations.
- Program Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical oversight on engineering initiatives, delegating technical tasks, coaching junior engineers, and driving design reviews.
- Failure Investigation: Lead multi-disciplinary root-cause investigations using 8D/RedX frameworks and communicate findings directly to internal executive teams and external clients.
- Qualification & Governance: Direct the execution of product qualification programs for mechanical and electrical components; author compliance matrices, verification protocols, and final validation test reports.
- Lifecycle & Document Control: Oversee engineering change notices (CN/CO) and maintain bill-of-materials and technical data packages within PDM/PLM environments.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science, or a related engineering field.
- Product Engineering Experience: 5+ years focused on interconnect product development, analysis, and testing in aerospace or high-reliability military applications.
- Leadership & Process Skills: Demonstrated history of program delegation, formal problem-solving execution (8D / RedX), and technical presentation capability.
