Work you'll do/Responsibilities

The Senior Database Operations Lead (Multi-Platform) provides technical leadership for operational management of enterprise databases, ensuring performance, reliability, availability, and security across on-premises and cloud environments. This is an in-person client support role requiring presence in the office at least 4 days per week, supporting multiple database technologies (Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, Cassandra, Informix, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, and related environments) across Azure and Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform). The role includes 24x7 production support via rotational shifts/on-call, proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide 24x7 production support for Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, Cassandra, Informix, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB (and related environments) across on-prem and cloud (Azure, Google Cloud Platform) via rotational shifts and on-call.
  • Administer, monitor, and maintain databases in production and non-production environments, ensuring stability and operational readiness.
  • Own and improve backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies; conduct restore tests and DR readiness activities.
  • Perform routine health checks, proactively identify performance bottlenecks, and optimize queries, indexing, and configurations to meet service expectations.
  • Manage database security (access controls, user permissions, auditing) and support compliance with organizational policies and standards.
  • Coordinate and execute database patching, upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime and strong change control.
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to support deployments/releases and resolve database-related defects and operational issues.
  • Monitor and resolve incidents end-to-end, including triage, remediation, root cause analysis (RCA), and documentation of fixes and prevention actions.
  • Automate routine operational tasks using scripting and/or database management tools to reduce manual effort and improve consistency.
  • Maintain clear documentation of procedures, configurations, and support processes for internal knowledge sharing and operational continuity.
  • Communicate regularly with Engagement Managers (Directors), project team members, and representatives from various functional and / or technical teams, including escalating any matters that require additional attention and consideration from engagement management
  • Independently and collaboratively lead client engagement workstreams focused on improvement, optimization, and transformation of processes including implementing leading practice workflows, addressing deficits in quality, and driving operational outcomes

Qualifications

Required
  • 8+ years hands-on experience as a database administrator (DBA) managing one or more of: Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, Cassandra, Informix, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, and related environments
  • 5+ years strong SQL scripting and database troubleshooting (performance analysis, query optimization, issue isolation)
  • 3+ years automation and operational optimization using scripting (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL, SQL, shell scripting)
  • 5+ years in-depth experience with backup/recovery, high availability (e.g., clustering, Always On, Data Guard) and performance tuning across database platforms
  • 3+ years experience with database monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Azure Monitor, Nagios)
  • 2+ years experience with automation/IaC (infrastructure as code) frameworks such as Ansible and Terraform
  • 4+ years solid understanding and application of database security best practices (access controls, auditing, encryption, least privilege)
  • 4+ years proven experience with database patching, upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime
  • 3+ years operating effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities (production support/operations)
  • 2+ years supporting database audit requirements and license management activities
  • 5+ years excellent communication and documentation (runbooks, change records, incident/RCA documentation)Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related IT discipline; or equivalent experience

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $107,700 to $179,400.
