Important Notes
- Contractor will be responsible for purchasing parking through VDOT’s Parking Management Office or securing their own parking arrangements.
- This is NOT a Project Manager, Developer, Architect, Engineering, or Coding role.
- The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with data management experience who can coach, guide, and coordinate stewardship activities.
Position Overview
The Enterprise Data Steward will support Data Program by partnering directly with agency data stewards to strengthen data management practices, improve data quality, and prepare datasets for enterprise quality measurement within the agency’s data governance platform.
This role focuses heavily on coordination, communication, coaching, documentation, and data stewardship support rather than technical development.
The selected candidate will facilitate regular meetings with division-level stewards, guide stewardship activities, assist with creating documentation such as data dictionaries and business rules, and provide training and support to improve data literacy across the organization.
The position will serve as the primary liaison between business divisions and the agency’s Data Program to ensure stewardship efforts are consistent, coordinated, and aligned with enterprise data governance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Data Stewardship & Coordination
- Coordinate and support assigned data stewards across divisions
- Facilitate monthly stewardship meetings and follow-up activities
- Guide teams in creating required stewardship artifacts, including:
- Scoping documentation
- Data dictionaries
- Business rules
- Assist business units in preparing datasets for enterprise data quality measurement within the governance tool
- Serve as the primary liaison between agency divisions and the Data Program
Training & Coaching
- Provide training and coaching on:
- Data management principles
- Data quality concepts
- Data stewardship practices
- Support the development of data literacy and stewardship competency across the agency
Data Governance & Quality Support
- Support enterprise data quality initiatives and stewardship standards
- Collaborate with system owners and SMEs to resolve complex data issues
- Promote consistent data management practices across divisions
- Ensure stewardship activities align with established governance frameworks and standards
Required Knowledge & Experience
- Strong understanding of:
