Business Operations Analyst Simplified JD

Role Summary
The Business Operations Analyst in the Office of Data and Analytics (ODA) supports smooth day-to-day operations, budgeting, and planning. This role helps ODA use its resources effectively, improve processes, track performance, and work closely with other teams across the agency.


Key Responsibilities

Budget & Financial Support

  • Track and manage ODA s budget.

  • Prepare budget reports and submit finance-related deliverables on time.

  • Advise leadership on how to best use funds for hiring and retaining staff.

Business Operations & Strategy

  • Help design and implement business operations best practices.

  • Support strategies that improve team efficiency and productivity.

  • Assist with quality checks for ODA data products.

Performance & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain metrics, dashboards, and reports to measure ODA performance.

  • Prepare reports and presentations with findings and recommendations for leadership.

  • Support agency strategic planning and KPI tracking with the Office of Performance Excellence.

Project & Process Support

  • Coordinate and support high-priority business operations projects.

  • Improve internal communications and workflows.

  • Help test and implement new systems and procedures.

  • Support IDOH data transformation initiatives.

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Work closely with ODA leadership and other divisions.

  • Advise on relationship management between ODA and other teams.

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and data privacy regulations.

  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.


Supervisory Role

  • No direct reports.

  • May lead projects and delegate tasks with guidance from senior staff.


Work Environment & Expectations

  • Mix of independent and team-based work.

  • Requires strong judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Office-based role with extended computer use.

  • Work impacts ODA priorities and may influence broader agency initiatives.


Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor s degree or equivalent experience in business, operations, project management, or related field.

  • 4+ years of experience in business operations analysis or project management.

  • 4+ years working in a technical or data/analytics environment.

  • 2+ years of budget management experience.

  • 2+ years of DevOps experience.

Core Skills

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and build strong professional relationships.
