Product Manager - Legacy Data

Title: Senior Product Manager / Senior Data Conversion Consultant
Compensation: $80.00/hour
Type: 24+ month contract
Location: Remote (California candidates only)
Industry: Insurance / Workers Compensation

Responsibilities Lead functional and technical analysis activities related to legacy data conversion, migration, and system retirement initiatives.

Assess existing legacy data environments, including current, historical, archived, fragmented, or non-standard data sources.

Document data structures, definitions, flows, constraints, risks, gaps, dependencies, and quality concerns.

Develop detailed source-to-target mapping documentation, data dictionaries, business rules inventories, and conversion requirements.

Facilitate workshops and validation sessions with SMEs, business stakeholders, product teams, data teams, and technical delivery groups.

Partner with data architecture, IT, QA, DevOps, infrastructure, and integration teams to define migration sequencing, transformation logic, cutover plans, and quality controls.

Support migration execution cycles, including exception review, defect resolution, reconciliation, and validation of completeness and accuracy.

Ensure conversion decisions, lineage, metadata, and documentation align with enterprise data governance, security, auditability, and compliance standards.

Create conversion test plans, acceptance criteria, migration logs, reconciliation reports, executive updates, and knowledge transfer materials.

Identify project risks, dependencies, out-of-scope items, and mitigation strategies throughout discovery, planning, and execution.

Qualifications 5 10+ years of experience in Product Management, Senior Business Analysis, Data Analysis, Data Engineering, or Data Conversion roles.

Strong background supporting complex data migration, data mapping, data conversion, and legacy system modernization efforts.

Experience analyzing aged, inconsistent, siloed, or highly customized legacy data environments.

Ability to translate business rules into detailed functional and technical data requirements.

Experience building source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, lineage documentation, rule inventories, and migration documentation.

Familiarity with ETL/ELT pipelines, APIs, batch feeds, data exchange patterns, integration dependencies, and data transformation logic.

Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, traceability, audit controls, data quality, and compliance alignment.

Experience defining conversion testing scenarios, acceptance criteria, QA coordination, defect triage, and exception handling processes.

Strong facilitation, communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to work cross-functionally with Product, EPMO, technical teams, operations, business units, data architecture, and governance stakeholders.

Experience with insurance data structures, claims, policy, or workers compensation environments is highly preferred.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead through ambiguity in complex modernization programs.
