Job Description:

A leading technology integrator supporting a large municipal IT environment is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join their team. This role supports enterprise-level databases across multiple departments and requires strong technical depth, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative mindset. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity with long-term growth potential.

Position Overview

The Database Administrator will manage and maintain a diverse portfolio of databases, including Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server, across production and non-production environments. The role involves performance tuning, upgrades, troubleshooting, and close coordination with internal teams and external vendors. The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and a team-first attitude.
Location & Work Model
  • Onsite: Anaheim, CA (full onsite to start)
  • Hybrid potential: Fully onsite to start, potential for hybrid.
  • Schedule: Standard business hours with occasional after-hours support
  • Clearance: Must be willing to complete a local public-safety background check
Compensation
  • Contract Pay Range: $60-$65/hourly
  • Conversion Salary Range: $120,000-$140,000 potential for some flexibility
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and other small-scale databases
  • Support production and non-production environments, ensuring stability and performance
  • Perform daily health checks, backups, restores, and performance monitoring
  • Install, configure, patch, and upgrade database servers and related tools
  • Optimize queries, indexes, and system parameters for peak performance
  • Manage database security, access control, encryption, and auditing
  • Configure and support high-availability and disaster recovery solutions (Data Guard, RAC, AlwaysOn, clustering, replication)
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, triggers, stored procedures, and scripts
  • Support application teams with schema changes, deployments, and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to resolve database-related issues
  • Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years minimum of experience as a DBA (Oracle or SQL Server); senior-level experience preferred
  • Strong hands-on experience with Oracle 12c/19c and/or SQL Server 2016/2019/2022
  • Proficiency in SQL development, performance tuning, and database optimization
  • Experience with:
    • Oracle RMAN (backup/recovery)
    • Oracle Data Guard and RAC
    • SQL Server HA/DR solutions
    • SSMS, Azure Data Studio
  • Familiarity with cloud database platforms (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL)
  • Experience with database design, data modeling, normalization, and indexing strategies
  • Scripting experience using PowerShell, Python, or similar tools
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-platform, fast-paced environment and support 24x7 operations
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with OEM, Oracle Grid, SolarWinds, or similar monitoring tools
  • Exposure to SSIS, SSRS, or SSAS
  • Experience supporting large, distributed enterprise environments
  • Ability to collaborate with developers, architects, and business stakeholders
