Position: Sr. Principal Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineer
Location: Palmdale, CA
About the Role
As a Sr. Principal Non-Destructive Testing Engineer, you will play a key role in the inspection and qualification of rocket motors, composite aerospace components, and a variety of energetic and non-energetic materials. You will develop advanced NDT techniques, partner with cross-functional engineering teams, and drive innovation in inspection technology. This role requires strong technical expertise, creativity, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable results.
Responsibilities
Review engineering designs and technical drawings to determine the most effective NDT method based on material type and critical defect criteria.
Develop detailed inspection documentation outlining test parameters, requirements, and procedures.
Conduct technical audits and assessments of NDT personnel in operational environments.
Support production teams in the setup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of inspection systems.
Contribute to research and development initiatives focused on advancing inspection capabilities and integrating emerging technologies.
Prepare formal technical reports containing recommendations, graphical outputs, plots, tables, summaries, and comparative analyses.
Maintain and archive electronic and hard-copy inspection records and reports.
Perform additional related duties as needed.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 6+ years of experience, or Ph.D. with 4+ years of experience.
At least one NAS-410 Level 3 certification (held for a minimum of 2 years) in Eddy Current (ET), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), or Radiography (RT). Documentation of certification and experience is required.
Ability and willingness to obtain additional NAS-410 Level 3 certifications in ET, MT, UT, RT, and PT.
Willingness to cross-train in additional NDT methods.
Ability to meet NAS-410 visual acuity requirements (20/25 Snellen or Jaeger No. 1).
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to excel with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities, and operate as a motivated self-starter.
Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
Background in NDT for aerospace systems or components.
Experience in root-cause analysis and development of corrective action recommendations.
