About the Role

As a Mechanical Technician III, you will perform advanced mechanical modifications, installations, and customizations on a range of vehicle platforms including trucks, specialty vehicles, and heavy equipment. You will work closely with engineering and project teams to ensure all installed systems meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, hands-on fabrication skills, and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues.

Responsibilities
  • Perform complex mechanical modifications and customizations on trucks, specialty vehicles, and heavy equipment.
  • Install aftermarket components, systems, and sub-assemblies according to engineering specifications.
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and modification documentation to execute precise installation work.
  • Fabricate custom parts, brackets, and mounting systems to support mechanical and electrical integrations.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues related to modification work and perform corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, and project management teams to ensure modifications meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct quality inspections and functional testing to verify proper installation and performance of modified systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of modifications, parts usage, and completed work.
  • Follow all safety protocols, shop regulations, and environmental standards throughout the modification process.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to apprentices or junior technicians.
  • Communicate progress, issues, and recommendations to supervisors and project managers.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and relevant certifications.
  • Support troubleshooting of avionics and mechanical assemblies to document root causes for configuration management.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of experience in a related mechanical or technical field.
  • Expert knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency with safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
  • Ability to provide personal tools and toolbox.
  • Basic computer skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced certifications in a relevant technical discipline (e.g., HVAC, electrical, automotive, mechanical).
  • Experience in the aerospace or defense industry.
  • Forklift operation experience or certification.
  • Strong background in custom fabrication and installation work.


Essential Functions
  • Ability to work on-site full time.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Stand, walk, and operate tools for extended periods.
  • Work safely in loud or hazardous environments.
  • Travel as needed.
  • Availability for extended hours, weekends, and potential second-shift assignments.
