About the role: We are seeking a Payments& Settlement Engineer II who has a strong grasp of how transactions move through the payments ecosystem - from authorization through settlement and reconciliation. This role is heavily data-driven, requiring comfort working with large financial datasets, fixed-format files, and T-SQL to support and evolve our on-premise settlement and reconciliation platforms. You'll work closely with senior engineers, architects, and cross-functional payments teams to ensure accuracy, stability, and compliance across all downstream financial processes. Key Responsibilities: - Serve as an SME for on-premise payments settlement platforms, including settlement, reconciliation, invoicing, payouts, and exception/registry management.
- Analyze and troubleshoot transaction flows across acquirers, processors, networks, and downstream systems.
- Build and maintain data ingestion processes, especially fixed-format network files and multi-format data sets.
- Develop T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and database designs used to generate accurate downstream reporting and monthly financial processes.
- Participate in scoping discussions and customer/partner calls to identify impacts, risks, and required changes to settlement processes.
- Build automation and checkpoints to proactively detect data anomalies, missing records, format changes, or upstream deviations.
- Develop lightweight console applications or background processes focused on stability over complexity.
- Document system logic, data flows, file layouts, process dependencies, and troubleshooting guides.
- Ensure compliance with internal security, audit controls, and financial industry transaction standards.
- Support and participate in platform upgrades, patching, and configuration management activities.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline OR equivalent work experience.
- 4+ years of experience in engineering, data engineering, or payments systems roles.
- Strong T-SQL / SQL experience Deep understanding of payments concepts including:
1. Merchant/acquirer/processor ecosystem
2. Authorization flow
3. Settlement and reconciliation process
4. Network file formats and mapping
- Proficiency with file ingestion, fixed-format files, and data transformation workflows.
- Ability to troubleshoot large-scale financial datasets and identify upstream/downstream impacts.
- Experience building stable backend scripts, console applications, or automation processes.
- Understanding of distributed systems and data dependencies across financial workflows. Knowledge of compliance, audit, and financial data controls.
- Experience within ATM or card-present card processing environments.
- Prior work in settlement, reconciliation, or financial operations engineering
