Role Overview

The Data Engineering Platform Engineer owns, administers, and continuously improves the enterprise data platforms that power analytics, reporting, and data product delivery across Floor & Decor. This role is the primary steward of our modern cloud data architecture (Databricks on Azure) while also supporting our legacy SQL Server enterprise data warehouse (EDW) and Alteryx environments through a multi-year cloud modernization program.

  • Own and evolve the Unity Catalog data governance model: schema management, data lineage, tagging standards, and object-level security.
  • Monitor platform health across medallion architecture layers (raw/staging, conformed, gold/products); enforce SLA compliance for production jobs.
  • Manage Azure-native resources supporting Databricks: Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Key Vault, Azure Active Directory service principals, and networking components.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging Databricks capabilities (e.g., Asset Bundles, Liquid Clustering, AI/BI Genie) and translate them into actionable platform recommendations.

SQL Server EDW administration & transition support

  • Maintain and support the existing SQL Server EDW for ongoing operational reliability through decommission.
  • Manage SSIS pipeline operations, performance tuning, index maintenance, backup/restore, and ITaudit controls.
  • Provide technical input to EDW-to-Databricks migration planning, table classification, and cutover sequencing.
  • Collaborate with development teams on legacy query optimization, schema documentation, and migration readiness assessments.

Required Qualifications

<>Technical Skills
  • Databricks administration: Workspace configuration, cluster policies, Unity Catalog, job orchestration, access controls, Delta Live Tables
  • Azure data services: ADLS Gen2, Azure Data Factory, Azure Active Directory, Azure DevOps, Virtual Networks, Private Endpoints
<>Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform engineering, or database administration roles.
  • 2+ years in a platform or infrastructure ownership capacity.
<>Soft Skills & Behaviors
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ownership mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate or Professional certification.
  • Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) or equivalent Azure certification.
