A Chemical Hazardous Gas Plant/Facility Engineer manages the safe production, storage, and distribution of high-purity and hazardous gases (e.g., fluorine, hydrogen, WF6, hydrogen fluoride). They oversee facility infrastructure, perform hazard assessments, ensure code compliance, and direct 3rd-party maintenance to maximize plant uptime without business interruption.

Core Responsibilities
  • Process & Plant Optimization: Monitor production processes to improve efficiency, increase yield, and reduce waste while minimizing operating costs.
  • Plant/Facility Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Provide day-to-day engineering support for equipment breakdowns and process bottlenecks, including implementation of preventative maintenance plans.
  • Project Management: Design, coordinate, and execute facility upgrades, equipment installations, and capital improvement projects from conception to commissioning.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the plant meets environmental and safety standards. This includes facilitating Process Hazard Assessments (PHA), conducting root cause analysis (RCA), managing the Management of Change (MOC) process, hazardous risk mitigation, toxic gas monitoring (TGMS), and hazardous material compliance per local fire and environmental codes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with production, maintenance, and R&D teams, as well as external vendors and contractors, to resolve day-to-day operational issues.
  • Capital Projects & Upgrades: Plan, design, and commission new plant equipment or infrastructure, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Quality Control: Establish parameters to maintain chemical purity and physical material stability.
  • Emergency Response: Act as a critical technical resource or incident commander for chemical spills, hazardous leaks, or safety-related plant disruptions.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Facilities, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of industrial experience in a chemical manufacturing or process environment.
  • Key Competencies:
    • Deep understanding of flammable, toxic, and corrosive gas distribution, gas abatement, process piping, and PLC-based control systems
    • Proficient in completing and reviewing P&ID's, process control plans, FMEA's, and PHA's
    • Extensive knowledge of hazardous gas handling equipment/components, (e.g. gas cylinders and manifolds, distillation columns, gas abatement systems, toxic gas monitors, etc.)
    • Experience in ultra-high purity gas analysis for low impurity detection is a plus
    • Waste management, working with 3rd party organizations to safely remove hazardous waste from the facility and ensure proper disposal
  • Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, ISO 9001 &14001, and local environmental regulations is essential
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with process control software, statistical process control (e.g., Minitab, Six-Sigma methodologies), and computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
  • Physical & Environmental Demands: Ability to work in plant settings, wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and support emergency response teams.

Compensation: $100,000 - $125,000
