Workday Budget & Position Management Specialist

1. Role: Budget & Position Management Specialist

● Hours/Week: 20–30 hours (scaling to 40 during Parallel Testing/Gold Build)

● Primary Specialty: Workday (Advanced) with PeopleSoft Financials (Contextual)

● Key Skills: * Deep expertise in Workday Position Management and Commitment Accounting.

• Configuration of budget checking, encumbrances, and fringe benefit calculations.
• Advanced Workday Reporting (Budget vs. Actual, Filled vs. Vacant).

● Intangibles: Must be able to speak "PeopleSoft Budgeting" to "Workday Budgeting" to help the Budget Office translate their existing controls into the new system.

● The Budget Office requires a consultant with comprehensive expertise across the following critical areas:

• Position Management: Support configuration of position restrictions, availability rules, hiring freezes, supervisory organization alignment, and position life-cycle processes (create, freeze, close, reclassify).
• .Position Budgeting and Budget Checking: Configure and validate Position Budgets tied to funding sources, cost centers, and worktags; ensure real-time budget checking functions properly during hires, job changes, and compensation events.
•  Budget and Position Reporting: Develop and validate Position Budget vs. Actual, Filled vs. Vacant Position, and Encumbrance reports; ensure leadership dashboards support decision-making from day one.
•  Financial and Commitment Accounting: Validate commitment accounting configuration for positions, payroll expenses, and funding changes; ensure salary encumbrances and fringe benefits are correctly calculated; align financial postings with general ledger, grants, and fund accounting requirements.
