  • Review EXPLAIN output and recommend performance improvements.
  • Optimize complex SQL queries to reduce CPU consumption and improve application response times.
  • Leverage Real Time Statistics (RTS) to proactively manage database health.

Production Support & Operations
  • Execute and monitor DB2 utilities including RUNSTATS, REORG, COPY, RECOVER, LOAD, and UNLOAD.
  • Manage VSAM datasets, storage allocation, PRIQTY, and SECQTY settings.
  • Develop and maintain JCL and REXX automation scripts.
  • Support production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and drive issue resolution.
  • Manage DB2 command-level operations and database statuses.

Security, Backup & Recovery
  • Administer DB2 security through GRANT and REVOKE processes.
  • Support audit, compliance, and enterprise security standards.
  • Develop and execute backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Manage image copies, logs, and restoration procedures.
  • Participate in production readiness reviews and recovery testing exercises.

Collaboration & Leadership
  • Serve as the primary onsite DB2 DBA point of contact.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, SMEs, QA teams, and offshore resources.
  • Provide technical mentorship and knowledge transfer to team members.
  • Support releases, deployments, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
  • Document operational procedures, recovery plans, and database standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe Database Administration.
  • Strong expertise in IBM DB2 for z/OS administration and support.
  • Experience with DB2 utilities including RUNSTATS, REORG, COPY, RECOVER, LOAD, and UNLOAD.
  • Experience tuning SQL and resolving access path and performance issues.
  • Working knowledge of COBOL, JCL, CICS, and VSAM.
  • Experience supporting multiple enterprise applications in large production environments.
  • Experience coordinating with offshore teams and providing technical guidance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Endevor.
  • Exposure to mainframe debugging and diagnostic tools.
  • Experience supporting large-scale modernization or database transformation programs.
  • Knowledge of automation, scripting, monitoring, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Consulting or customer-facing experience in enterprise technology environments.
