Pipeline Engineer is responsible for the design of high-pressure steel natural gas pipelines for the Feeder-Line Replacement program, ensuring all analysis, installation, commissioning, operability, and integrity regulatory requirements and company standards are met or exceeded, including Code of Federal Regulations Part 192.
Key responsibilities include providing technical and design support for pipeline routing and layout, determining block and tap valve placement, and designing pipeline crossings for rivers, interstates, and highways using open dig or trenchless construction methods. The role requires knowledge of and ensuring compliance with industry codes, standards, and best practices, as well as performing engineering analyses of pipeline stress from: internal pressure, external loads, thermal expansion, soil loads, seismic effects, etc.
Additional duties include specifying pipe materials and coatings, procuring materials, preparing and submitting engineering documentation (including calculations, forms, and checklists), tracking project schedules and monitoring budgets. The Pipeline Engineer also develops pressure test procedures and supports commissioning activities.
This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to perform additional duties as assigned. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams including design drafting (for construction drawings), right-of-way agents (for easement & property rights coordination), cathodic protection engineers (for corrosion control systems), and environmental specialists (addressing wetlands, wildlife, and cultural resource considerations).
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in mechanical or civil engineering is required, along with 4-7 years of relevant experience. Candidates should have a foundational understanding of high-pressure steel pipeline materials and construction practices, and strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, communication tools, and engineering analysis software. This position typically reports to a supervisor or manager. #LI-TW1
