Location: Phoenix, AZ; Dallas/Irving, TX; or Columbus, OH
Work Arrangement: On-site Monday–Friday

Position Overview

We are seeking an engineer with strong hands-on IP packet-analysis experience and a secondary background in enterprise middleware support. The primary focus is capturing, reading, and interpreting network traffic to troubleshoot application connectivity and performance issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capture and analyze network traffic using Wireshark, tcpdump, or similar tools.

  • Read IP packets and analyze TCP handshakes, resets, retransmissions, packet loss, latency, timeouts, and connection failures.

  • Troubleshoot TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, SSL/TLS, authentication, load-balancing, firewall, proxy, and port-related issues.

  • Trace traffic across applications, servers, middleware, networks, and cloud services to isolate root cause.

  • Correlate packet captures with system logs, alerts, and performance data.

  • Support middleware platforms such as IBM MQ, Tomcat, Apache HTTP Server, NGINX, ActiveMQ, IIS, .NET middleware, or Azure Service Bus.

  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, monitor, and troubleshoot middleware environments.

  • Support production incidents, service restoration, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.

  • Troubleshoot certificates, keystores, trust chains, messaging, and application-integration issues.

  • Maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting procedures, and operational runbooks.

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in packet analysis, network performance, middleware, infrastructure, or application support.

  • Strong hands-on experience reading and analyzing IP packets.

  • Experience with Wireshark, tcpdump, PCAP files, or comparable packet-analysis tools.

  • Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, SSL/TLS, routing, ports, firewalls, proxies, and load balancers.

  • Ability to identify latency, packet loss, retransmissions, resets, and failed network connections.

  • Experience supporting at least one middleware or web-server technology, such as IBM MQ, Tomcat, Apache, NGINX, ActiveMQ, IIS, .NET middleware, or Azure Service Bus.

  • Experience troubleshooting production incidents in Windows and/or Linux environments.

  • Ability to work on-site Monday through Friday.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Datadog, NetBrain, LiveNX, Splunk, Dynatrace, or AppDynamics.

  • Azure or hybrid-cloud experience.

  • Experience with certificates, PKI, and secure communications.

  • PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ansible, or Terraform experience.

  • ServiceNow and regulated-industry experience.
