Key Responsibilities:
- Support large-scale service migrations while maintaining production reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues and novel bugs.
- Navigate ambiguous problems where documentation may not exist.
- Create runbooks, playbooks, and operational documentation to standardize processes.
- Help automate manual operational tasks over time.
- Collaborate closely with SREs and internal stakeholders throughout migration activities.
- Read and understand existing code when needed, though day-to-day coding is minimal.
- Reason for Hire: Support a large-scale migration from a legacy platform to a next-generation platform while assisting with operational workload and process automation.
- Preferred Degree Type/Field (if applicable): No specific degree requirement.
- A Computer Science degree is not required; demonstrated capability and problem-solving ability are valued over formal education.
- Additional HM Insights:- Reports directly to Hiring Manager and supports the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team responsible for maintaining the reliability of ML serving infrastructure.
- The team is focused on migrating services from a legacy platform to a next-generation platform while ensuring production systems remain stable. The role primarily supports internal engineering teams.
Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
- Experience supporting production systems, infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineering environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience writing operational documentation, playbooks, or runbooks.
- Experience supporting infrastructure migrations or modernization projects.
- Generalist engineering background with exposure to multiple technologies.
- Proven ability to automate manual processes or improve operational efficiency.
- familiarity with Python, Java, C , or Go
- Candidates who require highly structured processes and struggle with ambiguity.
- Weak communication skills or inability to clearly explain technical concepts.
- Reluctance to learn unfamiliar technologies.
- Candidates with an overly narrow technical specialization who lack adaptability.
- Limited ownership, curiosity, or proactive problem-solving.
- Any other insights shared from HM in addition to above:-Programming language expertise is not a primary hiring criterion, as the team uses multiple technologies and internal languages that candidates will learn on the job.
- ML model experience is not required because the role focuses on infrastructure rather than model development. Industry background is flexible; the hiring manager values capable engineers from diverse backgrounds.
- Years of experience are flexible, and strong junior candidates with demonstrated impact may be considered.
- The role can be tailored toward either operational or engineering work depending on the candidate's strengths.
- Experience with AI or agentic automation is a nice-to-have but not required.
- The long-term goal is to reduce manual operational work through documentation and automation.
