Summary
Communications Specialist (Part-Time, Contract)
Pay Rate: $23–$28/hour
Schedule: ~24 hours/week (3 days onsite, consistent schedule required)
Hours: Flexible (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Duration: 6-month contract
Work Type: Onsite
Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Internal Communications & Engagement Specialist to support day-to-day internal communications and employee engagement initiatives. This role focuses on execution—producing content, managing communication channels, and supporting messaging aligned with leadership direction.
The ideal candidate is creative yet practical, with strong visual communication skills (e.g., enhancing presentations, designing intranet content) and a strategic mindset that considers how messaging impacts the broader organization. This person should be people-focused, using communication as a tool to drive connection, engagement, and alignment.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Distribution
Draft, edit, format, and distribute internal communications across email, intranet, digital signage, and print
Translate leadership and HR direction into clear, engaging messaging
Create presentations and visual materials (primarily PowerPoint) with strong design sensibility
Ensure consistency with brand standards and templates
Inbox & Workflow Management
Manage internal communications inbox and request system
Track, prioritize, and respond to incoming requests
Maintain organized documentation of communications and deliverables
Campaign & Event Execution
Execute internal communication campaigns and engagement initiatives
Coordinate logistics for town halls, leadership briefings, and employee events
Prepare pre- and post-event communications
Track participation and engagement metrics
Systems & Channel Management
Maintain and update intranet (SharePoint) content
Manage digital content, announcements, and documentation
Ensure information is accurate, current, and accessible
Utilize internal communication tools effectively
HR Communications Support
Support distribution of HR-related communications, including:
Policy updates
Benefits and total rewards
Recognition programs
Organizational updates
Assist with onboarding communications and culture messaging
Support urgent or sensitive communications as needed
Quality & Alignment
Ensure all communications align with company voice, tone, and culture
Proofread and quality-check all materials before distribution
Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information
Required Qualifications
3–6 years of experience in internal communications, marketing support, or communications coordination
Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially PowerPoint and SharePoint
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign preferred)
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong organizational, time management, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to work independently and execute tasks with minimal oversight
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field
Experience supporting multi-channel internal communications and engagement initiatives
Background in event coordination or employee engagement programs
